Hi,
As you may have seen on the Wikimedia Blog, we just published an illustrated licensing tutorial for Wikimedia Commons:
http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2010/11/05/illustrated-licensing-tutorial-wik...
The tutorial will be integrated into the new upload wizard (to be enabled at the end of the month) and I'm coming to you today to help us translate and localize it.
This translation request is a bit special, since it consists not only of translating text, but also of localizing some of the graphics (if needed).
If you feel uncomfortable updating / creating the graphics yourself, you can focus on the translation and someone else will add your translation to a localized version of the tutorial.
I already did the French translation, in order to identify the biggest problems that could be encountered during the translation. I've added some recommendations & instructions on the coordination page.
Please read them carefully, as it will save your time and ensure we can publish your work in the software interface.
Many thanks in advance for your help!

Arabic (ar) is done now as in text but for the little signs: "STOP" can be translated and be meaningful, but "OK" is a bit of a problem. we can't leave it in English and the Arabic meaning I feel won't fit in here. Any suggestions?
As for the graphic, I will flip it horizontally so that it makes sense. Other RTL scripts can use it also afterwards.

Sorry I didn't complete reading the localization remarks before asking :) I will use a check mark for the OK sign, octagonal stop sign is suitable as I said before as the word in Arabic is 2 letters and already familiar.
Thanks Guillaume for the remarks on the translation page.

Hello,
Macedonian (mk) translation is done.
I only wonder - why did we have to translate it there, if we are supposed to upload the file, categorize it, etc ourselves?? (as stated under "Uploading the file to Wikimedia Commons" in your instructions). Should we (for some reason) also translate the SVG image in a vector editor?
Thanks,

Macedonian (mk) translation is done.
I only wonder - why did we have to translate it there, if we are supposed to
upload the file, categorize it, etc ourselves?? (as stated under "Uploading the file to Wikimedia Commons" in your instructions). Should we (for some reason) also translate the SVG image in a vector editor?
Thanks,

Hi,
As you may have seen on the Wikimedia Blog, we just published an illustrated licensing tutorial for Wikimedia Commons:
http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2010/11/05/illustrated-licensing-tutorial-wik imedia-commons/http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2010/11/05/illustrated-licensing-tutorial-wikimedia-commons/
The tutorial will be integrated into the new upload wizard (to be enabled at the end of the month) and I'm coming to you today to help us translate and localize it.
This translation request is a bit special, since it consists not only
of
translating text, but also of localizing some of the graphics (if needed).
If you feel uncomfortable updating / creating the graphics yourself,
you
can focus on the translation and someone else will add your translation to a localized version of the tutorial.
I already did the French translation, in order to identify the biggest problems that could be encountered during the translation. I've added some recommendations & instructions on the coordination page.
Please read them carefully, as it will save your time and ensure we can publish your work in the software interface.
Many thanks in advance for your help!

If you have any question, comment or doubt, please ask on the talk page and I'll do my best to help solve the issue.

Hi,
As you may have seen on the Wikimedia Blog, we just published an illustrated licensing tutorial for Wikimedia Commons:
http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2010/11/05/illustrated-licensing-tutorial-wik imedia-commons/
The tutorial will be integrated into the new upload wizard (to be enabled at the end of the month) and I'm coming to you today to
help us
translate and localize it.
This translation request is a bit special, since it consists not
only of
translating text, but also of localizing some of the graphics (if needed).
If you feel uncomfortable updating / creating the graphics
yourself, you
can focus on the translation and someone else will add your
translation
to a localized version of the tutorial.
I already did the French translation, in order to identify the
biggest
problems that could be encountered during the translation. I've
added
some recommendations & instructions on the coordination page.
Please read them carefully, as it will save your time and ensure
we can
publish your work in the software interface.
Many thanks in advance for your help!

Dear all,
Although I knew Wikimedia translators were quick, I'm just amazed at all the work done over the week-end. You're all *amazing*! Thanks so much
Let me try to summarize the questions:
Le dimanche 07 novembre 2010 à 07:48 +1300, Bojan Jankuloski a écrit :
I only wonder - why did we have to translate it there, if we are
supposed to
upload the file, categorize it, etc ourselves?? (as stated under
"Uploading

some
reason) also translate the SVG image in a vector editor?
There are three reasons why I asked the translation to be done first on meta, before localizing the SVG file: 1. Meta has a good process for translation, where the translation has to be checked (proofread) by someone else to ensure good quality. 2. Someone may be able to translate, but not know how to edit the SVG file. By decoupling the two actions, more people are able to participate. 3. Once we have the text version of the tutorial, we can reuse it, for example, to add it as alternative text to the image for blind people.

What was displayed incorrectly? It's probably due to a difference between the font you used on your computer, and the fonts available on Wikimedia servers. I'm going to check with the tech team to see what fonts we have. Which one did you use?

Guillaume, I noticed you fixed some problems on the Italian licensing tutorial svg file. But there's a part missing now. the one that says "natural landscapes, animals, plants." Is that normal? Because I found the same problem on the other languages svg files.
I'm not sure what you mean. I do see the text "paesaggi naturali, animali e piante". Does it not appear for you?

SVG display can be somewhat unpredictable. As long as everything looks correct in the PNG version, it will be rendered correctly:
