After Siebrand had given me a demonstration of the fantastic new Translate
extension, I realized we are now able to take a big step forward in making
the Wikimedia Grants program more accessible to our colleagues around the
I therefore ask for your help in translating
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Index into as many languages as
possible, to ensure those seeking funding can find useful information in
their own language.
I have tried to make that page as concise and as clear as possible, though
there is a somewhat unavoidable level of detail required because people
actually need all this information to submit grant proposals.
Nevertheless, if, during translation, you encounter something that's
unclear, contradictory, or just weird, please don't hesitate to call it
out, on this thread, on the talk page, or privately to me.
Thanks in advance for your help! I appreciate it greatly.

If you want a translation (which I do want!) then there has to be a means of doing it.
I cannot see where to translate the TOU notice.
I have just seen the generic maintenance notice come up in yiwiki.
Unfortunately it links to the English landing page, although a valid yi translation of the landing page is available.
How do we fix this?

The notice and the landing page have both been translated.
I did see the notice in Yiddish—no problem.
But the link took me to the English landing page

If you haven't come across me before, I'm Harry (better known in many
quarters by my pseudonym Jarry1250) and I was recently awarded a place on
this year's Google Summer of Code to work on a project called TranslateSvg.
In a nutshell, TranslateSvg is all about providing an interface that allows
Wikimedia Commons users to translate SVG images on the spot and without
As part of that remit, I'm now seeking out those among the community who
have direct experience of translation of one sort or another and who might
like to help influence the design of TranslateSvg (both in terms of
interface design and workflow requirements).
Particularly super-useful would be to someone willing to try out interface
designs in the RTL variants, or using non-Latin scripts.
Thanks and much respect for all the hard translation/i18n work that goes on
to make MediaWiki a world class piece of software.

I would like to know the status of the translation of the WMF website, especially the key pages like homepage and other pages linked in the sidebar, in order to maintain the translations up-to-date (what they are not really yet…). Is there a project or a wish about this? Is there a way to help? I've not reviewed all homepages but at least the french homepage is quite old and I think this is damageable that translations are outdated or not present on this website.
Hi everyone -
We have a new request for translations (using the extension) at
We very much appreciate your help with this! We're pushing the roll-out
back to 4/25.
