Hey translators!
There's a new video currently in final production that will be used to
help inform people about the Wikimedia Foundation and its staff. You
can help translate the transcript in the same way as the fundraising
video[1], by translating its subtitles.
Translations are requested by January 14. Although the first priority
is for translations in de, es, fr, ja, zh-hans, zh-hant[2], all
languages are appreciated.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to respond to this
e-mail or visit us on IRC/Skype. The video can be translated at on
Meta-Wiki.[3]

[2]Deutsch (de), Español (es), Français (fr), 日本語 (ja), 中文(简体)
(zh-hans), and 中文(繁體) (zh-hant)

Hear hear!
I must say i finished translating the words about 10 days ago, but I agree
with Takashi on this. For instance:
- I don't know how long every subtitle will be "on screen" - Dutch people
read slower then they hear so I must shorten some sentences
- I don't know how people "mean" what they say: are they reffering to
what the previous speaker said or is it just a fragment?
- Translating sentences is not the same as translating the *meaning* of
what someone says, especially in subtitling.
Subtitling has some rules here in Holland too - even worse: there even are
educational institutions for it. With the movie and timecodes I could change
the subtitles so that they actually fit on the screen and are to be read in
the limited time.

Hello all,
I'd appreciate your help in translating the following page into as
many languages as possible:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Licensing_update/Questions_and_Answers
Specifically, the most recent version:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=1345439
This is the Q&A for the proposed licensing change from GFDL to
CC-BY-SA+GFDL. It's a critical element of the proposed licensing
change and will be linked to from the voting page when we ask the
community to vote on the proposal.
I would suggest to link translations at the top, and to use language
suffixes in the title (/de, /fr, etc.), per usual conventions.
This is a fairly complex document and I am happy to try to answer any
questions that may come up during translation; please feel free to
refer questions directly to me as needed.
We may need to make updates to this document as we publicize the
proposed license change. I would be inclined to make updates directly
as they come up and notify you when we reach a milestone from the
above-referenced revision, but I am happy to use any other approach as
well.
Thanks in advance for any and all help,
Erik

Hi all.
Here's the final translation request for the 2008 fundraiser, the
Thank You letter from Jimmy and its notice.
<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2008/thank_you>
This letter thanks all of the donors for donating and should help us
bring in even more donations as well. According to Sue, this notice
will replace all the other notices from the Fundraiser (it will be
shown at 100%) and will be rolled out tomorrow.
The source shouldn't change too much between now and then, so you can
get started translating the documents.
Thanks again for all your work!

>From where I'm looking, we've just gone over our fundraising goal of
US$6,000,000.
I want to thank all of the translators (and coordinators) for all the
hard work you've done during this fundraiser (and especially all the
quick, high-quality work you've done). The goal would probably not
have been reached without the help from all of you.
In my timezone, we have about 15 minutes left until we go into 2009 --
I think this is a great way to begin the coming year. :-) If you're
already in the new year, or if you'll be in it soon, Happy New Year!
As a side note, there will be a thank you page coming out soon for all
the donors that will also need to be translated. Please keep in mind
that we'll probably be using the same donation module until the next
annual fundraiser, so any work that still hasn't been finished up will
still be useful.
