<tl;dr>: Read https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Google_Code-in/Mentors and
add your name to the mentors table and start tagging #GCI-2018 tasks.
We'll need MANY mentors and MANY tasks, otherwise we cannot make it.
Google Code-in is an annual contest for 13-17 year old students. It
will take place from Oct23 to Dec13. It's not only about coding:
we also need tasks about design, docs, outreach/research, QA.
Last year, 300 students worked on 760 tasks supported by 51 mentors:
https://blog.wikimedia.org/2018/03/20/wikimedia-google-code-in-2017/
While we wait whether Wikimedia will get accepted, do you have any
translation tasks in mind?
Important: A translation task must not be possible to complete by
machine translation and the mentor must know the language in order to
review a student's work.
Tasks should take an experienced contributor 2-3 hours. Read
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Google_Code-in/Mentors
, ask on the talk page if you have any questions, and add your name to
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Google_Code-in/2018#List_of_Wikimedia_mentors
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
We want to communicate to contributors and village pumps that we have
published the Community Engagement Insights report, which several of you
helped to translate (THANK YOU!).
There are small differences between the message so hopefully this wont take
too long.
I would greatly appreciate some help translating the two links into the
following languages:
ar, de, es, fr, it, ja, nl, pt, ru, zh-hans
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Engagement_Insights/MassMessages/…https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Engagement_Insights/MassMessages/…
We'd like to send this message sometime next week.
Thank you so much!

If the wikis in your language allow local uploads, they probably want
to know that Commons has decided not to allow single-license GFDL
licensing for most files:

I will send this out in a couple of days.

Hello,
The Readers team wants to get feedback on an update to the way the toolbars
work on the mobile web site. This is to help folks contributing with mobile
devices. Help translating will help make sure people can successfully give
us their feedback.
All translations are welcome. We ere are focusing on the following language
wikis to start.
Arabic, Chinese, Finnish, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese,
Persian, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese.

The page describing the test and the survey questions are also marked for
transition if you are feeling exceedingly awesome.

Thank you as always.

The latest tech newsletter is ready for early translation:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/2018/38
Direct translation link:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-T…
I plan to send the newsletter on Monday afternoon (UTC), i.e. Monday

that language. Deadlines:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/For_contributors#The_deadlines
There may be a more edits by Friday but the existing content should
generally remain fairly stable. I will let you know on Friday in any
case.
Let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. As
always, we appreciate your help and feedback.
(If you haven't translated Tech News previously, see this email:

If I can help you with anything, please ask!)
The translation memory has been working fine for me, in the sense that
it is fast if only collecting translations from the last few weeks. I
hope it's better than it's been lately for you.

Hello everybody
Hope you're having a good weekend!
On September 12, the European Parliament will vote on important changes to
EU copyright. As you may have seen, we've built a landing page
<https://fixcopyright.wikimedia.org/> for the campaign to modernize
copyright in the EU <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fix_copyright>. We
want to send as many people as possible to the landing page to contact
Members of the European Parliament and tell them to vote for an open
internet.
If you speak/translate any of the EU languages, please help us make the
page multilingual! French, Spanish, and German are already fully translated
and live on the page. Dutch and Italian will follow soon. But many other
language versions are still missing or incomplete.
Can you please tell everyone to fully translate these two parts:
https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&action=translate&…
(this
is the skin of the page)
https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&action=translate&…
(this
is the part with the messages that we want to send to the lawmakers; we
should have all versions of the messages translated so we don't send the
same message over and over again)
Thank you! Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions.
Best,
Jan
Hi everyone,
For a short while, you'll be able to only read but not edit the wikis on
September 12 and October 10. I'll send this out on Thursday. Please help
translate into languages that are missing.
