Dear Translators,
My name is Edward Galvez and I work at the Wikimedia Foundation, supporting
surveys for the movement. The Foundation will be running a rather large
survey in early January called Community Engagement Insights. In order for
it to be easily accessible to as many editors as possible in the entire
Wikimedia movement we need help to translate the survey into as many
languages as we can.
The purpose of the survey is to know how well we are supporting the work of
Wikimedians and how we can change or improve things in the future. The
opinions that are shared through the survey will directly affect the
current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. You can find more
information about the survey on meta.[1]
We need some help translating the survey from English into the following 10
key languages: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish,
Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Russian. Translations in
additional languages as also welcome, as long as the survey can be fully
translated in those languages.
We will be using a Google spreadsheet to perform the translations. This is
a logistical decision, as moving translations from Meta-wiki to Qualtrics
(the platform of choice to hold the survey) is very complicated.
I know that it is customary to perform outreach through the community on
Meta when it comes to translations, however, given the size and possible
impact of the survey, I am trying to minimize pre-exposure of the questions
to avoid survey bias. For that reason, I’m directly reaching out to WMF
staff, affiliates and highly trusted community members like you instead.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to carry all the burden of the translation
alone should you decide to help; this can be spread among several
translators working together on the same language. We may also hold online
sessions where groups can translate together (I will be helping to
translate in Spanish and Portuguese). If you’re willing to assist, I would
kindly ask for your help in obtaining the best data we can by not sharing
with other users any of the questions on the survey, unless with another
trusted community member willing to co-translate with you.
If you are interested in helping and have some free time over the next two
weeks, please respond to me directly to let me know which language you can
help translate and I will follow up with more information. Our deadline
for the translations to be completed is December 9th.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you everyone!
Edward

Hi translators!
A first release of a major new feature of the Content Translation extension
will be deployed to Wikipedia next week: A template editor.
It will give the article translators much more control over how the
template adaptation works.
There are only a few messages to translate for this. Here's a direct link
for translating it in translatewiki.net :
https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Translate?filter=!translated&action=…
Thank you!

Hello dear translators,
The search team at the Foundation would like to run a few tests on the
Catalan, Polish, and Italian Wikipedias. We'd like to let the communities
know our intent to run these tests, and a translated message for their
Village Pump is just the thing to start the conversation.
As always, your help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,
The maps team is preparing to enable a new feature on a few Wikipedias.
We'd like to share a short message with them to let them know what to
anticipate. Help translating (Finnish, French, and German) this message
would be greatly appreciated.

wikis in that language.
There may be a few more edits by Friday, but the existing content
should generally remain fairly stable. I will let you know on Friday
in any case.
Let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. As
always, I appreciate your help and feedback.

Compared to last October issue, the November one is really much shorter. I
plan to distribute that newsletter at the beginning of next week. It will
be frozen on Monday, but not major changes are expected until then.
I'm off until Monday, so I'll not be able to answer your questions during
the coming days.
See you on Monday, and thanks a lot for your support!

Hi all,
I apologize for the short notice but if anyone has a couple minutes to help
translate a security message it would be great. We've been having some
security issues over the past couple days with compromised accounts and we
want to make sure we get the message out to admins as much as possible.
You can find the message for translation on meta at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Security/Password_reset
I've also copied the text below for your benefit and if easier feel free to
reply to me and I can enter it in as well.

*Message:*
We are currently experiencing compromises of privileged wiki accounts by an
unknown and unauthorized third party. It appears that this may be the
result of weak or reused passwords.
Community members are working along with members of multiple teams at the
Foundation to address this issue.
In the meantime, we are asking that everyone review the passwords that they
have chosen for their wiki accounts. If you know that you've chosen a weak
password, or if you've chosen a password that you are also using or a
non-wiki account, please change those passwords.
Select strong passwords -- eight or more characters long, and containing
letters, numbers, and punctuation.
