Folks,
Last year, the Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team did a wishlist
survey (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2015_Community_Wishlist_Survey), to
help them figure out what they should be working on. This has been rather
successful in the sense that not only has it shaped the work of the
Community Tech team, but also been at the centre of hackathons, provided
tasks for other developers and so on. And we need ways to make sure the
community can express what they need the WMF to work on.
We're preparing this year's survey:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2016_Community_Wishlist_Survey
It's a big page. Lots of information. But if you have the time, or want to
translate it or at least some central parts of it, it could help make sure
this doesn't just reach the English-speaking part of the our community.
I'll be mainly offline for a couple of days. If you have questions
regarding the survey, the content of that page or anything else related to
this, please ask Danny Horn:

There may be a few more edits by Friday, but the existing content

Hello,
The Discovery team has been making good progress in enabling cross language
search results on several wiki's and now we need help in translating a
phrase: "*showing results from"*.
We recently deployed <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142413> [1] a
language detection algorithm on the Portuguese and Japanese wiki's that
will detect if certain languages are being keyed in using languages other
than the main language of the wiki.
For instance, we're now able to detect the following languages that are
typed into a query on these primary language wiki's:
Portuguese: PT, EN, RU, HE, AR, ZH, KO, EL
Japanese: JA, EN, RU, KO, AR, HE
But, we have a need for the system message to be translated - the system
message that notifies the user that the results displayed are from a
different language wiki. Here are working links from PT
<https://pt.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=Washington+Township%2C+Licking+…>
[2] and JA
<https://ja.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=Washington+Township%2C+Licking+…>
[3] that show a search example with the results displayed.
*Image

[4] showing
the sample results from an English search typed into the Russian Wikipedia
search box.*
It would be great if we can get these translations into translatewiki so
that the Discovery team can use them using these message keys (and this
message group link: https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Translate?
group=ext-wikimediainterwikisearchresults):

Greetings, translators! I hope your week's gone or going well. :)
We're about to launch a consultation on meta building off the New Readers
work we are doing. We have a very short message we'd like to use for
outreach:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/New_Readers/Target_countries/MassMessage
The actual consultation page might go through some more changes so I
haven't marked it for translation just yet. There is, however, a little box
that we'd love some help with. That is located here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:NR_target_countries_topbox
If you would like to, it would be great to translate these for use next
week and throughout the discussion.
Really appreciate all you do - have an awesome weekend!
best,
Joe

Hello Translators,
This is a big request and I appreciate any amount of assistance. Over the
last month I've worked on updating the search documentation for our
projects. I adapted User:Cpiral's great work (thank you!) and have marked
up the page for translation.
I now need your help to make this available in as many languages as
possible.
This page is an important page! It is linked from many Special:Search pages
across the Wikimedia projects. Look at the "Help" link in the upper corner
of your local wiki to see for yourself.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:CirrusSearch
Again, your help is appreciated and please let me know if you have any
questions.
