I have created MediaWiki:Blogtext and MediaWiki:Blog-url to the
WMF wiki. Shall I wait until MediaWiki:Blogtext is translated into
multiple languages before I add this to the places where Jay is asking
me to?

Cary, when you get a chance please update the WMF wiki tool system.
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Home
We still need a 'Wikimedia blog' link on the left-hand menu under 'about
wikimedia'
And at the very bottom of the page, in the bar with the 'A wikimedia
project'
logo, please also add a "Wikimedia blog" link between the "About Wikimedia
Foundation" and "Disclaimers" link.
Thanks!

This is just a short announcement to say that the translation of the 2008
board election pages can now start:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/Translation
If you didn't volunteer when I was in recruitment mode weeks ago and would
like to do so, please e-mail me and I'll put you in contact with other
volunteers working in your language, if there are any. I would prefer no one
wing it entirely solo (two heads are better than one, and if someone is
absent for a while the other one can take over - you never know, after all).
Please don't hesitate to e-mail me if the translation system is confusing
and/or you find a bug. We think the current system is simple and easily
understandable at a glance (three colors, three stages), though, so
hopefully you will too, though we're open to suggestions.
Cheers and happy editing,

Greetings and hi,
I would like to volunteer to help in the translating works in Wikipedia. I am able to translate both Malay (ms) and English (en) language. I'm not too sure what should I do next.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help in advance and best regards,
Lim Kong Soon

Hello,
Seasons greetings
Transcom has begun a spring house keeping drive on Wikimedia
Foundation website [1]. We happily have seen many productive responses
and would like to thank you all who have offered hands.
Now we would like to appreciate specially on that:
* we have now a complete set of soft redirect message. [2]
* we have many updated main page of WMF [2a], either completely
(including French) or partly (including Italian and Polish).
* also we see many requested translation on-going and close to
completion (including Spanish)
We internally ended the phase 2, that is, determine outdated and
abandoned pages (from April 8). Without hearing any report there is
translation on-going but done outside of wiki, I made up two criteria
as proposals:
- if a page was last edited until August 2007 or earlier, it will be
blanked and turned into soft redirect without exception, unless it is
the Main Page (Main Page will be turned into a hard redirect to
English page)
- if a page was last edited in August 2007 or later, the content will
stay but with {{update needed)).
I would like to discuss those criteria with you all, but it wouldn't
be a problem to turn the 2004 page into a redirect, so I think we will
be able to start the pages picked up from special:Oldpages. I
expect to see the consensus based conclusion within a week.
Now, let us start the third phase. And as said, I'd love to start is
as soon as possible.
#3. Turning those outdated and abandoned pages into soft redirects.
Soft redirects will be template messages with a link to another
language version or more. We are thinking English versions, unless the
other language is recommended. We now have a template for this
purpose, that is, updeed needed [2].
Anyone who has wmf wiki account is welcome to help this out. We'll
upload the updeed needed to the site, if not yet.
Cbrown1023 made a list of outdated pages [3], it will be a good start
to pick the page, specially you are interested in updating, rather
than turning them into redirect. For picking too old pages, it would
be easier to start from Special:Oldpage.
The next and last phase will be:
#4. Final review (May 21)
There would be the pages which are not ready on April 8 but ongoing
or just said to be ready in days. If no work is done at all by this
date, those pages will also be turned into redirect.
Workspace for translation of each page may be found through
meta:Translation requests (aka m:TR). [4]
Questions and suggestions are welcome as always. You are welcome to
ask a question on this list, m:Meta talk:Babylon [5] or IRC
channel #wikimedia-translation. For general guidance about translation
on meta, m:Translation will be helpful. [6]
Happy translation!

Hello everyone!
The Wikimania 2008 registration form needs translations. :-) This is
probably one of the most important documents from Wikimania 2008 that
need translation.
If you could, please help translate it into your language on Wikimania
2008 wiki: <http://wikimania2008.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania:Translation/Registration_…>.
(French and Arabic are being handled and English is already done, but
*any* and *all* other languages are appreciated. ;-)
If you need assistance, please visit #wikimania2008 or
#wikimedia-translation on Freenode.

Hello,
Seasons greetings
Transcom is beginning a spring house keeping drive on Wikimedia
Foundation website [1]. We happily invite you to join this cleaning-up
and help renew pages or add new translations.
WMF site needs to be up-to-date, in every language ideally. By now WMF
site has its content in many languages. Some pages are available in
over 10 or even 20. But not every page is regularly updated. Some
contents are based on year old one or much older ones, like the
English version created in 2005. For example,
- Spanish Home Page (Portada) is based on September 2005 English version.
- Romanian and Italian Home Pages are based on an much earlier version.
- Korean page seems to be much older (2004?)
- Turkish and Finnish "About Wikimedia" were last modified in 2006,
and thus not in form of FAQ.
We Transcom propose a schedule for cleaning-up as follows:
#0. This announcement
#1. Waiting phase (2 weeks, until April 7)
We Transcom ask every translators to check their language pages, and
if they are outdated, to renew those pages. We expect you translators
to begin your work within 2 weeks ... you can jump in translation
directly or just say on this list "I'll take care of it very soon", if
you are willing to help.
#2. Determine outdated and abandoned pages (from April 8): if someone
works or will soon work on a page at that moment, we are happy to wait
for their translation.
#3. Turning those outdated and abandoned pages into soft redirects.
Soft redirects will be template messages with a link to another
language version or more. We are thinking English versions, unless the
other language is recommended. We'll make a template for this purpose.
The draft is on meta [2]. An example of look and feel of French
version "sorry for your inconvenience template" is available [2']
#4. Final review (May 21)
There would be the pages which are not ready on April 8 but ongoing
or just said to be ready in days. If no work is done at all by this
date, those pages will also be turned into redirect.
Cbrown1023 made a list of outdated pages [3], it will be a good start
to review your language pages.

meta:Translation requests (aka m:TR). [4]

ask a question on this list, m:Meta talk:Babylon [5] or IRC

on meta, m:Translation will be helpful. [6]
Happy translation!
