Today we are starting a new translation request for the 2011 Wikipedia Editors Survey[1].
The Wikimedia Foundation's Global Development Department is running this 50 question, 18 minute long survey to better understand the Wikipedia editing community. The survey will allow us to refresh our data, get more accurate, reliable, and valid sample data, determine influences on Wikipedia activities, understand editing activities, and find ways to improve retention and increase diversity.
As this is a global survey of all of our Wikipedia projects, we would like to have it translated into as many languages as possible so that many people can participate. If you are interested in helping with this, please see the Translation page[2] for tips and for the translation workspace.
Please note that all translations need to be completed by March 23rd, so that we may begin programming the survey into our system and have it ready by the end of March.

I need some clarification for several questions in the survey.
D1a. In what year did you first start contributing to Wikipedia? -- Do you accept non-Gregorian calendars here? If not, we might better to give some indication with the box, for example, something equivalent to " A.D. _____ ". Without any given notice, people might expect their own calendars.
D11. In a typical day, how much time do you spend on your computer? -- The candidates here look less regular. Is it intentional to have "8-9" as the second candidate, not "9-10"?
Q9. -- Here you mention several websites/services including Facebook and Farmville. Those examples might give less or no information to non-English users. Are we allowed to "localize" it into a well-known counterpart in our own language community? (Sir48 asked the same question at [[meta:Talk:Wikipedia Editors Survey 2011/Translation/en]], and got no reply yet.)

can you explain what is Q13a "A feature that allows editors to do block edits like paragraphs and sentences" in other words? What is "block edits"? We cannot translate it.
And Q12, "A feature/app that allows you to "check in" at places" - I know what it is in Facebook, but cannot understand wiki-context.

q13a : I think it allows editing by sentence or paragraph. (So you can choose one sentence/paragraph and edit only it)

Hmm, why do I have the sinking feeling that the community might end up being me for cy?:-)
When you know how you are going to go about recruiting translators to english for the survey, could you post a notice about this on this list, unless you are going to post on every Wikipedia community page on languages which need translators?

Hi Eleri, Right now we don't from which languages we will get narrative responses. Once we figure it out, we will employ different channels to recruit translators. I'm translating the survey to Bulgarian and I reached question Q3, which I believe needs clarification, especially considering the preceding questions.
*Q3. What is your user access level? (Please choose all that apply) *
Having asked the editor to first list ALL applicable versions of Wikipedia where they contribute, and then the ONE where they contribute primarily, its obscure then which of both aspects does Q3 exactly refer to. For instance, I may contribute to both Bulgarian and English Wikipedia (Bulgarian being the primary one) and I may have a basic account on the English WP, while being a sysop on Bulgarian WP. Then, how am I supposed to answer the question? :)
Hence, the question should either stipulate that the answer is given for the *primarily edited *version of Wikipedia, OR it shall allow the user to provide their * maximal *user access level ever reached. I think both answers would be helpful for the survey, or even one of them, as long as all users understand the question uniformly.

There shouldn't be much room for misinterpretation there. "All that apply" means you shold check all the access levels you have, regardless of whether they are on your primary project or not.
Hm, it wasnt so obvious to me, before you explained it :D ... Maybe you're right though I'm still feeling that misinterpretation may occur and separating the question would yield clearer results (and eventually bring more information, helpful for the survey). Or maybe it;s because of my sleepiness in this time of the night (UTC+2)... Thanks anyway! V.

Based on everyone's feedback, I agree it is best not to mention in the beginning that Wikimedia Foundation is a non-profit organization so we don't get a biased response to D14. Block edits is editing a selection like few sentences or just a paragraph

This question is to understand their online behavior so it is not related to wiki context. But if you feel Facebook Places is more relevant example than go ahead and change it.

I tried to save a translation for cy and sw on the central notice, but it wouldn't save. I couldn't post a comment on the talk page either. Am able to edit other pages on meta.

I tried to save a translation for cy and sw on the central notice, but it wouldn't save. I couldn't post a comment on the talk page either. Am able to edit other pages on meta.

I have translated the survey to German, but it still needs proofreading, which no one may have done or nothing was found. I left out many examples, that I found to be too biased.
