If you are in the UK then you need to know that it appears that there is only one Wikimedia UK volunteer who can do the work of producing the individual images in different languages and of amending the link from the banner so that it goes to the translated landing page (the appeal letter and the donation interface). I don't think that this volunteer will have the time to do these images for at least another week, because of commitments outside of Wikipedia. You will also need to specifically request that Wikimedia UK fixes this on your language Wikipedia - because this is time-consuming I guess that they won't be doing this for any language unless it is requested.
If you are not in the UK - the issue may be similar but with a different Wikimedia chapter.
You need to mention your language, where you are and provide a link to the landing page you get taken to if you click the banner, to get an answer from the people who know more than I do.

------------------ I'm actually in Belarus using Belarusian Taraškievica WIkipedia (be-x-old.wikipedia.org). The point is that pushing translated 'Read Now' button for this banner's rollout would be much better solution. The banner links the common landing page: http://goo.gl/2b29G.

That would probably be helpful, since I think English has found that the buttons helped them a lot. An easy solution for this would be to use an HTML button for the translations instead of an image button, just like we did in 2007: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/2007/Donate/es
This button would be able to just pull the text translation like any other CentralNotice translation, making it a lot easier for us to publish. It might not look as pretty, but it's easy to publish, changes to the size of the message, and is more flexible.
Does that sound doable/desirable?

Seems to make sense. Moreover, 'Read More' button design can violate Microsoft patents if any. Hope that I'm wrong. :)
Although, that button is weird and inattractive, but the idea is all good.

Who did have the nonsensical idea to use an image button? Text on images means hardcoding, such texts are untranslateable unless new buttons are created for every language. That is a symptom of ignorance.

I would assume that it's because images are often easier to implement. The hard-coding wasn't a problem when this was implemented because it was only being used on English banners.
It actually turns out that they had the same idea we did and added it to the editor appeal banners: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:NoticeTemplate/view?template=20101211_EA002B_LC&wpUserLanguage=es So it looks like we have an easy fix now... WMUK can just copy the button text into their banners. :-)
So, Casey, could you please summerize the situation and point out the process to translate the button?
Thank you,

Alex and James figured out the issue and fixed it last night. It turns out that using the hard-coded English image was an error and they switched it to use the css from the editor appeals. Now the button shows up translated on the Foundation's banners (see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:NoticeTemplate/view?template=20101209_CN002A_LC&wpUserLanguage=vi) -- I'll see about getting it setup on WMUK's banners.

We already have translations for the "Read Now" button. It's #5 on the core messages translation request: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2010/Core_messages/en.
