Sorry for crossposting. CLDR data submission has started this week,
we're looking for more translators: so far I have added 23 new
translators who made over a thousands translations and seem happy with
the system.
Instructions are kept up to date at
<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/CLDR#Contribute_to_an_existing_locale>.
As you know, Wikimedia projects exist in almost 300 languages;
supporting them all is a big effort so we partner with other
organisations, also via Unicode. One small but visible thing we miss is
that many interwiki links in sidebar (among others) don't offer a
translation of the language name when hovered. This can be fixed: we're
now able to translate 100 more language names in your language.[1]
If you're interested, I can create you an account to submit translations
on the CLDR web tool (within June 14): please send an email[2] to ask
one and I'll follow up with instructions. On CLDR you can translate and
tweak many other things, if you desire; your work will impact hundreds
of software projects.[3]

Hi all,
Later today the engineering department is starting a meta consultation on
the media viewer software and they want to put a banner up for logged in
users to alert them to this. I've created a simple banner for this and if
people are able to translate it quickly it would be great so that we can
roll out with a couple languages already done.

It is weird that, for example, chapters' pages on Meta should be written in
English and then translated into native language -- according to current
logic.

non-urgent items to next week, so that people learn about them when
they can actually see the changes and test the new features. It's so

Hi all, I wanted to send a report about the VisualEditor Translation Sprint
which was launched as an online activity during Wikimania. Some great
results were achieved: you can find some highlights at [1] .
We noticed that during the translathon (possibly also because of other
translation-related events at Wikimania) several interface messages were
reviewed, like those for Traditional Chinese (zh-hant) and Dutch, and that
about 600 messages were translated. One language even progressed from 0% to
100%! So we're excited to announce that the most prolific translator is
(drum roll...) Deryck Chan! Your barnstar is on its way.
A round of applause also to all the editors who took part in this. All of
your contributions matter; and we heard from many of you in London that you
want to involve other members of your communities in similar efforts to
complete the work once you're back home, so really we couldn't be happier.
We're also quite excited that some of you even joined the Translathon after
Wikimania; interface messages in Breton, for instance, are being created
even now. Many thanks to Siebrand, Keegan and to everybody else who
supported the volunteers in the last days, including people who managed to
update the user guide before the Translathon started. Please contact our
team if you have questions or need further help with translation
activities; meanwhile you can learn more about how to get involved at [2] .
