Hello,
the latest issue of your favourite tech newsletter is ready for early
translation at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2013/31
We're planning to send it on Sunday (in 2 days), but since there is
already some stable content, we thought it would help translators if the
page was set up for translation early.
The content will be frozen on Saturday evening (tomorrow), and it will
be possible to continue or edit translations until Sunday evening.
Following your feedback, just like this past week, we will be sending
out /all/ language versions that have been at least partially translated.
Note: These two templates appear on the page and need to be translated
separately (if translations aren't already done):
* https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Tech_header
* https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Tech_news_nav
Please also note that this week's issue will not be divided into the
usual "recent software changes" and "future software changes" parts;
we've been having trouble with this division for some time and decided
to experiment with a single bulleted list this time.
Therefore please take special care when translating
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Translations:Tech/News/2013/31/2/en as
the translation memory will suggest you an outdated translation.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I
appreciate your help, feedback and involvement.

This week we have also published a publication manual at

us maintain good quality formatting and error-free delivery of the
newsletter to avoid unpleasant situations that have taken place in the past.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I
appreciate your help and feedback.

We will send it tomorrow evening, in order to give a little time for
translation while still providing users with information that isn't
outdated. Following your feedback, this time /all/ language versions of
the newsletter that have been at least partially translated will be
posted on wikis in those languages.

Hi lists,
I am working on "MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template-VisualEditor deployment" now.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=Centra…
Could anybody help add descriptions to "VisualEditor_deployment" and
"ve_centralnotice_hide"?
I am wondering whether these words should be translated or not (I
guess the latter one
should not be translated at all.)

Oggetto: [Mediawiki-i18n] First usability tests on early content
translation prototypes

Hi,
I conducted two usability tests with two users. Sessions were half user
research (to understand current process) and half usability testing (to
check how our initial design ideas worked).
The basic design ideas worked well and we got interesting feedback to
keep exploring. Observations have been analysed in a document
<https://docs.google.com/a/wikimedia.org/document/d/1vpQPxX9AcQOKsl8YuIrF_Zr…>
where
a summary of the relevant findings, as well as the user recordings and
detailed observations for each participant.
I also created a public Trello board
<https://trello.com/board/content-translation-designs/51dd7e7215b12d77010021…>
with all the design problems and solutions I am considering. The purpose
is to allow it to unify the feedback I get from different sources
(users, Language engineering team, and the design team) in a single
place where anyone can access to it.
Next steps include:
* Finding design solutions for detected issues
* Update the prototypes to include the new ideas
* Adapt the prototypes to other languages and recruit additional
participants
* Start adding information to a wiki page about the project,
Feel free to provide any feedback or ask any doubt.

Hi,
the latest tech newsletter is now ready for late translation:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2013/28
I'm planning to send the newsletter around 19:00–20:00 UTC tomorrow. The
translations that are complete or mostly complete will be posted on
the wikis in that language.
Unfortunately, I was not able to prepare the newsletter earlier this
week, due to other tasks and lack of help. I would welcome help from
other editors to write the next newsletter so that the content can be
ready for translation earlier, for instance around Thursday or Friday,
with Saturday evening (UTC time) at the latest.
Let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I
appreciate your help and feedback.
Note: These two templates appear on the page and need to be translated
separately (if translations aren't already done):
