Hello Translators,
please help interface translations: this year we add
- three new messages
- two updates
All are available at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2007/Interface_translation/d…
Those MediaWiki Messages will be used on the 3rd party server (soon
announced) altogether the rest of MediaWiki:Boardvote_*. For smooth
transition, we would like to have a set of relevant system messages on
meta at hand. If you have such a page on the project you are active,
please c&p it on meta.
We are planning to open the voting in ca. 15 hours.
Cheers,

Hello,
thank you for your help, always.
I am grad to see the Board Election 2007 has been helped by many
translators. In my opinion, this forthcoming election is really
important - we haven't ever seen three seats replaced. It could cause
a significant change of the Foundation governance, and for us the
community it is a big issue to face such a possibility of big change.
Currently we see 17 candidates. All submitted approx. 1200 character
length statement.
Today, the last day of the candidate accpetance, almost complete sets
of candidate statements are available in some languages already.
That is, Czech, French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Norwegian.
Proofread of those language versions will be welcome.
In some languages, translations are still ongoing: Japanese, Italian,
Portuguese and Finnish. If you can be capable in those languages,
please help it out.
It is great we have already so many language versions, even before the
acceptance isn't closed. Again thank you for you all, translators!
In those languages, translations just began, and needs your help:
- Russian
- Chinese
- Turkish
And for other languages translation doesn't seem to start. Your help
will be welcome.
Please give a look at [[m:Board elections/2007/Candidates/en]] and
consider to help it out.

Hello,
Please consider to translate it into your favorite language(s) and
post to the other Wikimedia mailing list. This announcement was
originally posted to foundation-l some hours ago.
If you are too occupied to do so, please make a summary (for example,
candidate list + upcoming schedule) and post anywhere you think
appropriate. I put a brief summary on my Japanese blog for my own
reminder ...
Cheers,

Hi Wikimedians,
As you may know, we are currently holding the Board of Trustees
elections. We are very grateful to your collaborations for sharing the
info, through translations, forwarding and other several ways.
Last Sunday, June 17, the Board Election has entered its second phase:
call for endorsements from the community to the candidates. Only
candidates who get 12 or more endorsements in the following week will
be able to run in the election.
For further information, please see m:Board
elections/2007/Endorsements. (
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2007/Endorsements )
We would appreciate your translation of this message as well as other
Election related information. If you'd like to offer further help,
just contact your language coordinator and regularly check the list of
candidate statements.
If there's no coordinator for your language, please consider joining
our translations team. Please contact User:Schiste or User:Aphaia on
meta if you have any question.
Cheers, Wikimedia Election Steering Committee

Hi everybody,
I am [[meta:user:Walter]], the one that is making the newsletter
Wikizine about the Wikimedia Foundation projects. My newsletter is in
English. Some time ago people have volunteered to start making
translations of Wikizine.
Currently there is besides English also Deutsch, Español and Indonesia.
The people making the Español seems to have lost interest and this
version will be suspended soon if there are no takers to take it over.
Deutsch and Indonesia have only one person to work on it. The person
working on the German version is not able to provide translations of all
editions because of real live work but is definitely not giving up.
The person making the Indonesia edition seems to mange to do it alone
for now.
If there would be people interested to help out with an language edition
of Wikizine then that would be very useful.
Especially for the German edition. That would be the least work because
the bulk of the work will be done by Mbimmler who does the DE Wikizine
version. It would be helping out when Mbimmler is to busy.
For ES WIkizine there seems be nobody left so that would be more work. I
prefer to have fewer languages that can operate good instead of more
unrealible languages services.
This mailing list is for Wikimedia Foundation translation matters,
Wikizine is about Wikimedia Foundation matters but is not a WMF project.
This posting is more a FYI, maybe there are here people who have fun in
translating and are interested. If so then there work would be very welcome.
But the primary responsibility for people to help out are the respective
languages communities who until now do not show any interest.
Greetings,
Walter Vermeir

Hello,
The Wikimedia Board Election Steering Committee invites all community
members to endorse candidates they support. Endorsements may be submitted
on meta now till next Saturday, 23:59 June 23, 2007.
Each qualified community member can submit up to three endorsements.
Please note several things:
- Only confirmed candidates are listed by Election Committee or its
delegate, so the list can be updated during the endorsements phase.
- You need an account on meta, not just the project that you are
qualified to vote under, unless you meet the criteria on meta too.
- Please link your meta user page and your home wiki page. Detailed
procedure can be found on the meta endorsement page.
All information is available on meta at:
On endorsements:

Thanks to devoted volunteering translators, those pages are also
available in some languages other than English. We thank those
translators as well editors who have helped to disseminate the news
about this Election, including the latest sitenotice updates on several wikis.
Please consider forwarding to the project(s) you take part in
as well the mailing list(s) you belong to.
Sitenotice update and localization would also be appreciated.
Thank you for your attention, we look forward to your participation.

==Endorsements==
===Introduction===
The purpose of the endorsement requirement is to try to make sure that
the election only includes serious candidates. We need to do this
because this election is being conducted for Wikimedia which includes
many languages, and therefore we are trying to have every candidate's
statement translated into as many languages as we can. This work is
done by volunteer translators and can only be done only if the number
of candidates is limited to a reasonable number.
The requirements for time-on-wiki and edit-count requirements help to
make sure that only serious candidates participate, but the Elections
Committee did not wish to raise these requirements too high because
then some genuine candidates might be excluded, so we have added the
requirement for endorsements. Because the Elections Committee
believes that the endorsement requirement is important to the Board
election process, we urge that reasonable requests and discussion
concerning endorsements should '''not be considered a violation of any
local anti-canvassing guidelines or norms.'''
===Criteria for Endorsement===
All candidates standing for election are required to obtain 12
endorsements for their candidacy. Criteria for endorsement are the
same as criteria to vote: users endorsing must have 400 edits in any
namespace or combination of namespaces on a single Wikimedia project
and at least 3 months edit history prior to June 1, 2007. Candidates
who have not received the required number of endorsements will not be
allowed to stand for the election.
===Qualified candidates only===
Only qualified candidates may be submitted for endorsements. If you
are not willing to be confirmed through the candidacy process
(including verifying your identity to the Foundation, and meeting the
minimum qualifications for candidacy), your name will not be submitted
for endorsements.
===How to endorse===
In order to endorse a candidate, locate their endorsement section on
the endorsements page [NOT YET AVAILABLE, ENDORSEMENTS HAVE NOT OPENED
YET], and "sign" it using four tildes <nowiki>(~~~~)</nowiki>. You
may also leave a very brief (up to '''100 characters''', roughly
equivalent to 25 word in many languages) statement for the reason of
your endorsement. Statements longer than 100 characters '''may be
removed''' at the discretion of the [[Board
elections/2007/Committee/en|Election Committee]], though the
endorsement will remain valid. Endorsements will open 0:00 June 17,
2007 (UTC) and can only be withdrawn during the endorsement period,
which closes 23:59 June 23, 2007 (UTC). After 23:59 June 23, 2007
(UTC) you may not submit or withdraw any endorsements. Endorsements
may be removed '''by members of the election committee only''', and
''only if the endorser is found to not be a qualified voter in this
election'' or the endorser has endorsed too many candidates in the
election. In that case, all endorsements by that endorser will be
withdrawn by the committee and the endorser notified so that they can
re-submit endorsements up to the maximum number allowed.
===How many candidates may I endorse? I'm a candidate, how many
others may I endorse?===
Each qualified voter may endorse up to 3 candidates for election.
Candidates may only endorse two others (their endorsement of
themselves is implied by virtue of their self-nomination). Candidates
should not "sign" their own endorsement section, and their own
endorsement will not count toward their required number of
endorsements.
===When may I endorse a candidate?===
The endorsement period will begin 7 days after we begin accepting
candidates for office. On the current timeline, you may begin
endorsing on June 17, 2007, at 0:00UTC.
===A candidate received an invalid endorsement! What do I do?===
Please contact a member of the [[Board
elections/2007/Committee/en|Election Committee]] who will investigate
the claim.`

We, the election committee, hereby announce the opening of a new
election for members of the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees.
At least three positions will be filled from this election, with the
elected members serving a two year term.
It is important to note that election processes are slightly different
this year than in previous years: all candidates should be certain to
thoroughly read the FAQ at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2007/en
>From today, June 10th, we're accepting candidates for the Board of Trustees. If
you're interested, you must make a candidate statement and list
yourself on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2007/Candidates/en

fluent in any language other than English, and willing to help, please
list yourself here:
