Hello!
I am Rebecca Maung, a new employee on the Wikimedia Foundation's Learning &
Evaluation Team.
It is Community Insights Survey season! Like every year, we highly rely on
your participation to provide the best wording to people who will reply to
this survey.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Insights/Annual_surveys
In order to reduce the amount of work, we are not asking you to translate
the entire survey. The translations have been made by professional
translators, who received guidance. However, we rely on people who speak
the different languages and are familiar with the wikis to get those
translations at the top level. In particular, we are hoping for feedback
about whether the translation sounds awkward or unnatural, or does not
makes sense!
The survey is in a Google Spreadsheet document, here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aMijF3zD3zOKq8VW6yM6ev_0JM3UIOr2e__…
Each language is in a separate tab, at the bottom of the document.
For each language, we have the following columns:
- *Item order of appearance* - not important for you - please don't edit.
- *Question ID #* - not important unless if you have a question about a
specific point - please don't edit.
- *Priority* - not all items need a in-depth review, if you wish you can
only work on those of high or medium priority - please don't edit.
- *Reviewer* - add your name there
- *Source (Item statement, Matrix statements, and Response options)* -
this is the English source, for comparison
- *Text* *(Item statement, Matrix statements, and Response options)*-
this is text provided by the paid translator - *please* *do not change
it!*
- *OK or Suggestion* - add there if the text is okay, or suggest a
change. If you think it would be helpful for us to know why you are
suggesting a change, please feel free to let us know!
The due date is *August 23*.
We are looking for the following languages: Brazillian
Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Spanish (Latin
America), Ukrainian, French, German, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic and
Dutch. Having more languages is too complicated for the 2019 survey but we
are open to suggestions for next year.
Benoît is helping me with translations. He will contact you later for other
translation tasks, mainly about the FAQ (already available -
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Engagement_Insights/Frequently_as…)
and the invitation messages.
It you have any questions, please let us know. We are also open to
suggestions concerning next year's process or feedback about the
translations we provide.
We know that Community Insights is a big project concerning translations,
and we are really happy to work with you this year again. Thank you for
your help!
All the best,
Rebecca
