Hi Everyone Mozilla is hosting a launch event in Cape Town this Saturday (Jozi event soon) would be fantastic to see the open community come out to support RSVP details below thanks! Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town is our meeting spot for a morning of fun and excitement. Come one, come all, bring a guest, and hang loose. We'll have some snacks and beverages and perhaps other goodies to give away. An open event to talk about our volunteer community, contribution opportunities with Mozilla, plus an intro to Firefox OS. Only One Country in Africa part of Global South?

The WMF is running a Global South User Survey 2014. Among the list of countries part of the Global South, only Egypt is listed. Is Egypt only the country in Africa part of Global South? I agree with the words of Isla, found at: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research_talk:Global_South_User_Survey_2014… "I was, however, really surprised to find that the entire continent of > Africa is excluded from this survey (with the exception of Egypt, that is > lumped in with Arabic states and therefore is obviously - in this context - > not regarded as part of Africa). Wiki Loves Monuments mid event update

Hello everyone, I just wanted to give you all a quick update on the current status of Wiki Loves Monuments 2014. Currently South Africa is the 11th most active country with over 1,200 uploads by 41 participants. We are behind the UK (10th) which has 2,265 uploads by 227 participants. Lets see if we can over take them! Internationally over 81,000 photographs have been uploaded by 2907 participants with Poland being the most active country with over 20,000 photographs uploaded so far. We need to expand the number and range of participants this year so please tell all your friends and who ever you feel might be interested about Wiki Loves Monuments. Just a quick reminder that we will be having three WLM events in the Western Cape between 20th and the 27th September. *Events* V&A Waterfront Scavenger Hunt and Upload Marathon Date: Saturday, 20 September 2014 Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm Location: Clock Tower Vida e Caffé, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town 24 September 2014: Wikitakes Simon's Town Date: Wednesday (Heritage Day), 24 September 2014 Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm Location: Simons Town Train Station, Cape Town Franschhoek Date: Saturday, 27 September 2014 Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm Location: Old Library, Franschhoek These events will involve a monument scavenger hunt followed by an upload marathon. I think it went well and I am looking forward to organising another one in Cape Town. *Future WLM events in Sept* On that note I want to announce that we will be having another Wiki Loves Monuments scavenger hunt in Cape Town CBD on the evening of the 20th September (Saturday) and another one during the day on the 27th September in Franschhoek. I will keep you all posted on the details but I want to have the 20th Sept scavenger hunt in the V&A Waterfront area of Cape Town. Please RSVP with be before hand. Wiki Loves Monuments: Cape Town scavenger hunt and Wiki Meetup

Hello everyone, To celebrate the start of this year's Wiki Loves Monuments in South Africa <http://wikilovesmonuments.co.za/> we will be having a short scavenger hunt from 9:00am to 10:30am on Sunday the 7th September just before the Cape Town Meetup <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Cape_Town/Cape_Town_6>. We will be doing a short scavenger hunt to photograph a couple key monuments located close to Truth Coffee where we will be having the 6th Cape Town Wikipedia meetup. The objective will be to take photographs of: 1. The Castle of Good Hope - SAHRA-ID: 9/2/018/0056 2. Cape Town City Hall - SAHRA-ID: 9/2/018/0115 3. Old Drill Hall, Darling Street (Now the Central Library building) - SAHRA-ID: 9/2/018/0113 4. 71 Roeland Street (Where the Book Lounge is located) - SAHRA-ID: 9/2/018/0085 5. Tafelberg Dutch Reformed Church, Buitenkant Street - SAHRA-ID: 9/2/018/0102 6. Rust en Vreugd, Buitenkant Street - SAHRA-ID: 9/2/018/0100 All of these locations are within an 8 min walk of the Truth Coffee Building (which is its self also a great location as a possible proposed monument). At the meetup after the scavenger hunt participants will be able to enter the competition and upload their pictures. Meetup location: Truth Coffee, 36 Buitenkant St, Cape Town Start time: 9:00am End location: Truth Coffee, 36 Buitenkant St, Cape Town End time: 10:30am As usual there will be free coffee/hot chocolate at Truth for all who attend. There are also some great prizes up for grabs this year with first prize being R10,000 in photographic vouchers from ORMS. Wikimedia ZA 2014 AGM proposed date: 1st November

Hello everyone, I just want to let you all know that this year's Wikimedia ZA Annual General Meeting will take place in early November 2014. We have set a preliminary date of the 1st November 2014 to coincide with the awards ceremony for this year's Wiki Loves Monuments competition which will take place in Cape Town. We have decided to have it later in the year instead of its usual 1st September date because we will not be having a large launch event for Wiki Loves Monuments this year. Typically the large events at Wiki Loves Monuments provide a great opportunity for us to come together. As usual we will be electing the board of directors as well as discussing key points of business for 2015 at the AGM. Just like last year we will allow for people to join us over video chat. Please let me know in advance if you want to call in instead of joining us in person in Cape Town. We will let you know about the event location and times closer to the time.
