Hello everyone,
As many of you know we will be having the Wikimedia South Africa Annual
General Meeting on Saturday, 18 November 2023. The event will be held in
Johannesburg (exact location to be confirmed). In the three days before the
event (15-17 Nov) we will be hosting a workshop to create the chapter's
next 5 year plan. This is a very important event for the chapter because
the 5 year plan will lay out our activities for the foreseeable future and
determine our funding and project priorities.
Although you will be able to attend both events digitally we recognise that
there is no substitute for being involved in-person. As such we have a
sponsorship program for a limited number of Wikimedia South Africa chapter
members from outside of Gauteng to participate in these events. If you are
interested in attending the workshop and/or AGM in person, live outside of
the Gauteng area, and are a chapter member then please consider this
attendance sponsorship.
For people within Gauteng, you may still access the travel
sponsorship component to cover the costs of your travels to and from the
event location.
If you would like to access the sponsorship then please fill out this form:

If you have any queries about this process or if you are a chapter member
then please contact Shupai Mchuchu <shupai.mchuchu(a)wikimedia.org.za>.

Douglas Scott

Dear all,
With the continuous progress that have been happening during the past
couple of years in the apps team, Wikimedia Foundation wants to have a
two-way communication channel with the users;
They will be hosting Wikipedia office hours with users where they can
listen to live comments, suggest features and present their roadmap and
upcoming projects, because in Africa, apps could be the fastest solutions
to attract new users who want to do quick but vital edits and the other
ones who maybe suffer from an unstable internet connection or maybe looking
for an offline solutions.
The apps team has an upcoming online meeting scheduled for October 27th
5:00 pm UTC which will be 7:00 pm in South Africa. You can find all the
details right Here
