Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that we will be having our first
edit-a-thon of the year at the American Corner this Saturday the 21st
January 2017 at the Central Library in Cape Town.
We don't have a theme for this edit-a-thon so if you have one in mind
please do come along and we can all work on it together.
*When*: Saturday, 21st January 2017
*Time*: from 10:00 - 16:00 (welcome to come and go as you like)
*Where*: The American Corner, Central Library, Cnr. Parade & Darling st,
Cape Town, 8001
Even if you are not interested in editing it will also be a great
opportunity to join us for friendly Wiki related discussions and to hang
out. It will be a great place to discuss the recent awarding of the bid to
Cape Town to host Wikimania in 2018.
Cheers and all the best,
Douglas.

Subject: [OSM-Talk-ZA] Orienteering
To: talk-za(a)openstreetmap.org
Dear OSM community
This email relates to orienteering [1,2]. I am contacting you with the
general agenda to introduce you to what I think is an amazing sport
(amazing mainly because the intellectual navigational component takes
your mind off the bit about actually exercising), and the specific
agenda of growing our mapper community.
Fun fact: The OpenOrienteeringMap [3] is based on Open Street Maps!
(And I haven't figured out if the Open Orienteering [4] thing is
related to that or an independent project.)
Our next event is this Sunday, 22 January, in Bishopscourt, Cape Town.
More on our website [2].
The next few events after that:
12 Feb - Pagasvlei, Constantia
25 Feb - Zandvlei, near Muizenberg
26 March - UCT, Rondebosch
If this interests you, please check out our website [2] or our
facebook page [5] for more info or to stay in touch.
Hope to see you soon!
Bernelle

So I understand there are typically not enough scholarships applications
from Southern Africa, but from David's mail I understand there are usually
too many applications for scholarships overall.
So how many scholarships are typically granted overall, and how many
applications are from Southern Africa typically?
Cheers
Rossouw

As a member of the scholarship committee, please think carefully about
how you sell yourself.
Every year there are many more qualified applications than we have
scholarships to give, so it's crucial that you put yourself in the
mind of someone who has no idea who you are when you explain what you
have done for the movement, and how you intend to use Wikimania to
help strengthen your local free knowledge community.
Best of luck!

Hello everyone,
This is just to let everyone on this mailing list know that scholarships to
attend Wikimania 2017 in Canada are now open. Wikimania is an annual
Wikimedia/Wikipedia conference organised by both the Wikimedia Foundation
and local Wikipedia editors. This year's event will take place in
Montréal, Quebec, Canada from Aug 9-13, 2017.
Everyone on this mailing list is invited to apply. We typically do not get
enough scholarship applicants from Southern African countries so if you are
interested in attending then please do apply.
It is a great event that I always try to make a point of attending and
always enjoy meeting new people at. Especially folks from southern Africa.
You can apply at the link here: https://scholarships.wikimedia.org/apply
The deadline to apply is the 20th February 2017.
Cheers,
Douglas.

Your case seems to have been handled competently by the Wikipedia
administrators. You posted spam multiple times, and sought to use
sockpuppets to try and frustrate the administrators' efforts. You were thus
blocked indefinitely as it was decided that you were probably never going
to learn to contribute to Wikipedia positively and constructively.
No, posting information everywhere about your business is NOT making a
positive contribution to the world's knowledge.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DjMlindos
This mailing list is also NOT the right place to be asking to be unblocked.
Your case belongs on Wikipedia, and was handled there competently. You are
now SPAMMING this mailing list.

Hi
I've take another look at the state of the African-language Wikipedias,
and, like last time, there are some positive signs:
