Hello everyone,
I have set up two geonotices for Wikipedia editors in South Africa.
I would like to know if some one could check to see if when logged in as a
user on Wikipedia a banner add is displayed for either of the two events on
1st September in Cape Town? The two events are the AGM at 10am and the
Wiki Loves Monuments launch at 3:30pm for 4pm.
I would also like to get feedback on whether the two events should remain
on two separate banner adds or if this is confusing and they should rather
be merged into one banner add?
Currently I am in China and so I can not check to see what access Wikipedia
is like in South Africa.
Cheers,

Thanks to Mark Holmquist for maintaining http://etherpad.wmflabs.org for
the past long while. It is going down in 2 weeks, so please retrieve
your text.
I recommend that you:
* go into your browser history
* search it for etherpad.wmflabs.org
* go to each of those pads and copy-and-paste the content someplace,
preferably on a public wiki, even if it's just in your userspace
* replace the content of the Etherpad with a link to the wiki page
you've moved the text to

The day we have all equally hoped for and dreaded is come to pass: Etherpad
Lite has now replaced Etherpad "Classic" in production, and the labs
instance
is on its way out.
This is my as-wide-as-possible email warning to say that everything on the
labs instance, as really should have been expected, is going to be gone
soon.
Not immediately - we intend to give you two weeks to get your important data
off the instance and onto the new one at https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/ -
but you should _absolutely_ be moving things as soon as possible. We will
also keep a data dump around, in case anything else needs to get pulled out
of the pads, but I would suggest not relying on that if you don't have to.
And in the future: If a URL has "wmflabs.org" in it...don't put anything,
ANYTHING, important there. The purpose of labs is to let us experiment with
new technology without having to worry about reliability.
Thanks so much for your help and understanding in the course of this
migration.
tl;dr: http://etherpad.wmflabs.org is going down in 2 weeks, get yer
stuff off it.

Hello everyone,
Attached is the offical invitation to everyone on this list to attend this
year's launch of Wiki Loves Monuments which will be held on the 1st
September at 3:30pm for 4pm at the Prestwhich Memorial, corner of
Buitengracht St and Riebeek St, Cape Town, Western Cape.
I have just pulled an all nighter getting this invite ready for all of you
(I am currently in China for the next few days) so please do have a look at
it if you get a chance to tonight and let me know ASAP on any error's I
might have missed. I want to send this out to our media contacts early
tomorrow morning.
Please do send these invites out to whom ever you think might be interested
in participating.
I also want to remind everyone that we will be having our annual general
meeting (AGM) on the same day, at the same place at 10am. There will be
some free coffee and wifi access at Truth Coffee for us so everyone on this
list is encouraged to come on down.
Thanks,
Douglas.
Hello everyone,
In preparation for this years Wiki Loves Monuments South
Africa<http://www.wikilovesmonuments.co.za/>
(WLM) Wikimedia ZA is putting out a second call for volunteers from all
provinces to help plan and host WLM events throughout the month of
September.
If you are interested then please email me and/or sign up at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki
/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_ZA_2013#Call_for_volunteers
So fare we have volunteers for the Western Cape and Guateng Province. We
still need volunteers for all the other provinces but especially the North
Cape and the Eastern Cape. Additional volunteers for the Western Cape are
also needed.
Similar to what was done in Cape Town and Kimberly last year when treasure
hunts and upload marathons were organised to help promote and facilitate
WLM during September we would like to organise the same sort of events for
this year's competition in as many provinces and towns as possible. In
order for us to do this we need volunteers from as many different provinces
as possible to help make these events happen on the ground.
This year it is suggest we combine the monument/treasure hunts (3-4 hours)
with the upload marathons (+- 2 hours). However it is completely up to the
local volunteer how and which events they wish to organise. All we ask is
that
- volunteers keep us informed of what you are planing (so we can
publicise the event).
- it be directly relevant to the competition (that is to say, taking
pictures of monuments).
- It takes place in September 2013.
- It takes place in South Africa.
Currently we only have people in the Western Cape and Gauteng to host
events. Even though these two provinces have some volunteers present for
them we still would like more volunteers to help expand the number of
events that we can carry out in September.
A full list of registered monuments can be found in your province at:
http://wikilovesmonuments.co.za/wiki/Lists_of_monuments
Please also check out our page on Facebook at:
https://www.facebook.com/WLMZA?fref=ts
Thanks and best regards,
Douglas.
