Hello,
I want access to them. It looks easy to apply:
http://irr.org.za/fsp/civil-society-support-programme
I'm particularly interested in what they say about the number of immigrants
to South Africa. There is a debate in the media about it ( africacheck.org
) and it has spilled over into the Demographics of South Africa Wikipedia
page.

Dear all,
Just to give my apologies for this meetup; I will be away.
Thanks,
Michael.

Hello everyone,
I have just setup the 8th Cape Town meetup to coincide with the FPV Fest
<http://www.fpvfest.com/> (a drone festival) with whom Wikimedia ZA has
partnered to host the Wiki From Above
<http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/Wiki_From_Above_2015> photographic
competition. This means that this event will happen near Stellenbosch as
apposed to actually within Cape Town its self, which makes this one some
what unusual. That and we will get the chance to see some drones flying
around and meet some members of South Africa's growing drone piloting
community.
So if you are in the Cape Town/Stellenbosch area and want to see some
drones in action and/or just have a pleasant day at a wine farm then please
join us on the 30th May. If transport might be an issue then please
contact me and we will see if we can sort something out.
*Details:*
*Date:* Saturday, 30th May
*Time:* 10am - 2pm (welcome to arrive any time between 10am and 2pm)
*Location:* Wild Clover Farm <http://www.wildclover.co.za/contact-us/>,
Stellenbosch
*Meetup page:* Cape Town 8 page on Wikipedia
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Cape_Town/Cape_Town_8>
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments and please feel
free to share this invitation.
Also please feel free to submit any aerial photographs (from plains,
mountains, or other such high altitudes) to the Wiki From Above
competition. We have some great prizes, especially if you are into drones.
:-)
Cheers,
Douglas

Hello everyone,
Below is a link to a short documentary on the American show 60 Minutes
about Wikipedia. Wikimedia South Africa also makes it into the show.
Dumi, may I say that you look very good with that South African flag scarf.

Hi Rupert,
thanks for your question!
Because of our limited capacity we currently can't suggest
that simple.wp articles are reviewed, but it looks like a
great suggestion for a further phase of our project, so I
will add it to Meta ASAP.
Does simple.wp have the equivalent of Wikiprojects? I
would like to involve some users there if you think it's a
sensible thing to do.
Best,
Erica

Hi all, just in case you had missed the announcements
elsewhere, this research project [1] focuses on the South
Africa primary school curriculum: the involved teams have
selected a list of 100+ relevant articles which will
undergo review (or creation) by Wikipedians,
scholars/experts, or journals. We thought that involving
the Wikipedia community was the obvious first step in the
process, which is going to last for the next couple of
years, so please take a look now at the project page on
en.wiki [2] to learn how to join our efforts.
The next deadline for article review is *March 15*!
User:Alfhild-anthro already reviewed the article about San
healing practices; would you do the same for any of the
following pages?
Sexism Domestic violence Gender stereotypes
Transport in South Africa Bicycle Khoikhoi Republic
of South Africa Coal in South Africa Water supply and
sanitation in South Africa Water privatization in South
Africa Healthcare in South Africa Nelson Mandela
Apartheid Oliver Tambo
Or maybe you'd like to take a look at the expert reviews
posted at [3] or [4] and use them as a guide to improve
the related articles?
Thanks a lot for what you will do,

Hello everyone,
Here is an FYI from the Wikimedia Foundation regarding scholarship grant
applications for Wikimania 2015
<https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page> which will be taking
place in Mexico City this year. There is only one significant change in
that now applicants will now be judged more heavily based on activity in
Wikipedia than in previous years.
If you are interested in attending this year's Wikimania then I would
strongly suggest putting in an application
<https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Scholarships> now. The deadline
is the 16th February 2015.
Cheers and good luck,
Douglas.

Hi all
I wanted to outline that applications to Wikimania Scholarship opened a few
days ago.
It is probably worth outlining these two points:
1. "Based on the applicant's home country, each applicant will be
categorized as either a Global North or Global South
<https://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_South> applicant, with the
*total number of scholarships distributed between the Global North and
Global South being set at 25% and 75% respectively." *2. Unlike in previous
years, activity within the Wikimedia movement will be the main criteria for
evaluation. Participation in non-Wikimedia free knowledge, free software,
collaborative or educational initiatives is a plus but is no longer a
requirement; individuals who solely contribute to such areas are no longer
encouraged to apply. Please see the FAQ for more information on eligibility.
If you were deeply involved in Wikimedia the past year and would like to
get the opportunity to talk about your activities in Mexico, to listen to
other participants experience and to build new projects, do consider
applying for a travel grant.
