Hello Everyone
I hope this email finds you well. A founding member of @wikimediaigbo and
also a Wikipedian in Residence at Moleskine Foundation working on the
WikiAfrica Education project Tochi Precious,
Tochi Precious pioneered the last AfroCuration on 4th and 5th September in
Mozambique where he worked with the WMF Language Team to get the Makhuwa
language Wikipedia into the incubator. They had over 70 participants and
have created over 120 articles since then.
He wants to run his next program in S.A, with Constitution Hill and
Harambee on the 26th and 27th of October.
I am writing this email to find out if there are any volunteers who would
like to partake and volunteer with their time on this project. This project
will train new editors to edit our language Wikipedia, and also mentor them
to become part of our user group and also knowledge contributors in our
language on Wiki.
Please feel free to let me know your user names so I can put them forward
for the event.
Kind regards
Shupai Mchuchu

Hello everyone,
This is a final reminder of the Wikimedia South Africa AGM that will be
taking place tomorrow. You can find out more details about the event
(including links to the annual report and AGM agenda) on the event page here
<http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/2021-AGM>. See details below about start
times and how to join:
*Date*: 25 September 2021*Time*: 10:00 to 13:00 + 1 hour lunch intermission
-> 14:00 return for board elections*Location*: On your computer via Zoom,
please register to join
<https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87065558984?pwd=LzVUckI5Sm91U08vMDB5Uk5QYkdTQT09>
The event will start at 10am with an introduction to the Wikimedia
Foundation's new CEO, Maryana Iskander, who will likely be attending for
that first hour. This will give her an opportunity to learn from us about
the Wikipedia community and project before she starts in her new role and
it will give us an opportunity to get to know her better. The WMF will then
give a 30 min presentation to use on their outreach strategy for Africa
which they hope we can play a significant role in. After that at around
11:30am we will start with normal AGM items. There will be an intermission
for lunch at 13:00 and we will resume the AGM at 14:00 to finish up with
board elections and appointments (and any other unfinished business).
Hope to see you all there.
Regards,
Douglas.

Dear Tochi,
Thanks for reaching out, we already know about this project from a
presentation made by Papa some couple of months back. Shupai our
administrator will let you know there are more volunteers from the Chapter
and community who would like to take part here.
@Shupai Mchuchu <shupai(a)wikimedia.org.za> kindly note these dates and send
me a reminder 2 days before it takes place. Also kindly send this to our
community and board to find out if there aren't any volunteers who would
want to take part and volunteer with their time in this project. I'll
certainly be there.
Best regards,
Bobby Shabangu

Hello everyone,
The UCoC drafting committee recently released the Enforcement Draft
Guidelines (EDG) on meta, which is based on your suggestions on how the
Universal Code of Conduct should be enforced.
We are trying to get feedback on this draft, so the The Movement Strategy
team is facilitating conversations with communities around the movement.
The East African and Southern African EDGR Conversation is scheduled to
happen on Friday, 24th September 2021 at 5:00pm UTC.
Your presence in this meeting is very crucial to the future of the
Wikimedia movement. Please endeavour to have a look at the draft guidelines
before this meeting, and check out the open questions at the bottom, so as
to know the kind of feedback that we are looking to have:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Enforcement_draft…
Here’s the link to the call:
https://meet.google.com/ybv-ftiq-cct
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kindly,
Sam.

May I just add, please, that we many times requested to work out an MOU
with Moleskine, and kept having procrastinations.

Good day friends,
I trust this message finds you well and safe.
I'm writing to invite you to the Wikimedia South Africa Annual General
Meeting (AGM) which will take place this coming Saturday, *25 September
2021 beginning from 10 am (South African Standard Time)*.
The chapter was established in 2012 by volunteers like you to support the
South African Wikimedia community and its languages, outreach programms,
and advocacy work as well as to organize ourselves to make it easy to
receive funding. Every year, we apply and receive funding from the
Wikimedia Foundation and other organisations, including donations made by
other Wikimedians. As a chapter, we are only stewards of these funds, the
rightful owners are you! Meaning we always strive to exercise transparency
and accountability in the way we spend them.
In this regard, we would like to share with you our chapter's activities
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WM_ZA/Activity_Report_2020-21>, celebrate
milestones achieved over the Covid19 financial period, and hear from you on
how best we can reach out and support volunteers in South Africa and
neighboring countries. We would also like to take this opportunity to elect
a new board, I need to stress that any active Wikimedian or reader of
Wikipedia can nominate someone or themselves to sit on the
WikimediaZA board.
To participate in the meeting kindly register on the link here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1C4070xLwekqe5C7-4Yg3qPOk7HmdeGBXieWQQC9Nv4…>
.
Meeting details below:
Date: Saturday, 25 Saturday 2021
Start time: 10:00 AM SAST
Intermission: 13.00 PM SAST
End Time: 16:00 PM SAST
Location: Online Meeting
Kind regards,
Bobby Shabangu
WikimediaZA President.
Hi, I am just reposting Shupai's email as I see that the mailing list
reformatted and garbled the original one a bit. Please see below.

Hello Everyone
This is a quick reminder of the upcoming Wikimedia South Africa Annual
General Meeting (AGM) taking place this coming Saturday, 25 September.
Please see below for the event details as well as our AGM pack, this
includes a link to our activity report for the year 2020/2021 as well as
our first newsletter.
We also have some exciting news. The Wikimedia Foundation has very
recently appointed
a new CEO
<https://wikimediafoundation.org/news/2021/09/14/wikimedia-foundation-appoin…>.
The Wikimedia Foundation is the umbrella organisation that runs the servers
that Wikipedia is based on, collects all of the donations to Wikipedia (and
other Wikis), and supports the community of volunteer editors that make the
Wikis happen. Such as Wikimedia South Africa. Maryana Iskander was
appointed CEO on 14 September 2021 and, excitingly for us, she is based in
South Africa. She has indicated to us her intention to join the first hour
of the AGM so as to better get acquainted with the South African Wiki
community. As such from 10:00 to 11:00 the AGM will focus on introductions
and discussions about the Wiki communities in South Africa and globally.
This will have the added benefit to the broader movement of introducing her
to our movement’s unique culture.
AGM details
Date: 25 September 2021
Time: 10:00 to 13:00 with 1-hour lunch intermission and resumes at 14:00

The activity report can be seen on meta here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WM_ZA/Activity_Report_2020-21
In the activity report, you can see all the chapter's activities from July
2020 to June 2021. The activity report is broken up into two halves with
the first half focused (Mid-term report) focused on the chapter’s
activities from June 2020 to December 2020 and the second half (Final
report) focused on our activities from January 2021 to June 2021.
We also have our first newsletter which can be seen here:
http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/Newsletter_1
Unfortunately, the bookkeepers and accountants haven’t yet finished the
financial report for the 2020/21 year but have assured us that they are
working hard on getting that done before the AGM and we will send that out
as soon as it is completed. In the meantime we have added a brief financial
report on the previous year’s finances.
Best regards and looking forward to seeing you all there.
