I will be leaving South Africa to take a job in Germany on 1
September. As I will still be a South African citizen, I will not be
resigning from WMZA in the near future, but will be even less useful
Is the information on the wikilovesmonuments website still valid or should we
clear this and replace with a message until updated information is available?
We are promoting WLM and people are starting to go to the website, but may
become confused if outdated 2012 information is reflected.
In preparation for this years Wiki Loves Monuments South
Africa<http://www.wikilovesmonuments.co.za/>(WLM) Wikimedia ZA is
putting out a call for volunteers from all provinces
to help plan and host WLM events throughout the month of September.
If you are interested then please email me and/or sign up at:
Similar to what was done in Cape Town and Kimberly last year when treasure
hunts and upload marathons were organised to help promote and facilitate
WLM during September we would like to organise the same sort of events for
this year's competition in as many provinces and towns as possible. In
order for us to do this we need volunteers from as many different provinces
as possible to help make these events happen on the ground.
This year I suggest we combine the monument/treasure hunts (3-4 hours) with
the upload marathons (+- 2 hours). However it is completely up to the
local volunteer how and which events they wish to organise. All we ask is
- volunteers keep us informed of what you are planing (so we can
publicise the event).
- it be directly relevant to the competition (that is to say, taking
pictures of monuments).
- It takes place in September 2013.
- It takes place in South Africa.
Volunteers will be responsible for assisting in the organising and hosting
of events in their respective provinces.
Currently we only have people in the Western Cape and Gauteng to host
events. Even though these two provinces have some volunteers present for
them we still would like more volunteers to help expand the number of
events that we can carry out in September.
A full list of registered monuments can be found in your province at:

Betreff: [Wikimedia-l] 3rd Global Congress on IP & OpenAir Conference on
Innovation & IP in Africa
An: "Wikimedia Mailing List" <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
I've received an email from the organizers of the 3rd Global Congress on IP
& OpenAir Conference on Innovation & IP in Africa (
http://www.openair.org.za/capetown2013) which will take place from 9 to 13
December, in Cape Town, calling for participation from Wikimedia movement.
I've attended the Global Congress on IP in the the past, when I was leading
researches on the subject in Brazil, and they were an opportunity to engage
with other researchers, know better the global picture and problems of IP
and discuss global initiatives and threats among both global north and
global south perspectives.
Would there be anyone interested in participating of this meeting this year?
I strongly recommend people engaged in IP and international treaties
debates join them.
Perhaps someone from South Africa?
