Hello everyone,
Apologies for sending out so many forwarded old emails to you all. I
accidentally sent them to the mailing list instead of our new administrator
who I am in the process of onboarding.
The good news is that with the new chapter administrator onboard we will
now be able to do more to support Wikipedia in South Africa and offer you,
our chapter members, more support.
Hope you all have a great weekend,
Douglas.

Hello everyone,
We will be doing another Cape Town Wiki meetup on the 7th December. We are
trying out a new location again so please note the venue change. OpenUp
<https://openup.org.za/> has very kindly let us use their downstairs space
at the Code Bridge in Newlands
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newlands,_Cape_Town> which is very near to
Claremont <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claremont,_Cape_Town> train
station and taxi rank. It also has ample free parking in front of the
building. Also located nearby is Cavendish Square. Code Bridge is located
in the bridge (hence the name) that allows Campground Street to cross both
the railway line and Letterstedt Road.
This is the same location as the Wikimedia ZA 5-year strategy workshop and
AGM happening on the 14th and 15th December respectively. I will send out
another email about that now.
The parking and building can only be access by the Helmlock Street /
Letterstedt Road entrance. Parking is free.
See the location on the map to the right.
In summary the details are:
Date: Saturday the 7 December
Time: free to arrive anytime between 10:00 - 14:00
Location: Code Bridge <https://codebridge.org.za/>, 1 Thicket St,
Newlands, Cape Town, 7700
As always the meetup is open for everyone to join. So if you or anyone you
know as an interest in learning more about free knowledge or just want to
talk about it then please join us.
For more information please see the event page on Wikipedia here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Cape_Town/Cape_Town_22
Cheers,
Douglas.

That page has a number of details and links on it relevant to the AGM so
please do check it out. This includes our 2019/20 report, our WMF grant
application for 2020/21, and a summary of our advocacy efforts. It also has

we will review during the meeting.

The chapter has given out a couple of 1 GB data bundles to help people
attend, thank you to those who have contacted me to get those.

Dear all,
I had already "met" Shupai in the course of a board meeting but seeing
information here about her background gives me an idea, or rather
re-awakens an old one.
One of WIkimedia-ZA's outreach options considered over the years and
occasionally implemented by individual members, is the use of Kiwix offline
WIkipedias. Given that prison inmates are denied internet access, but do
sometimes have access to computers for rehabilitation-related training, how
about arranging installation in those computers of Kiwix in all SA official
languages - and perhaps other content available from Kiwix in .ZIM file
format, like Khan academy or TED videos? For extra points, how about
WikiFundi which allows them to create content?
Just flying a kite!

Good day all,
Today I'm excited to announce that WikimediaZA has granted the position of
Executive Assistant to Shupai Muchuchu where among her role will be
stakeholder and community engagement.
Shupai has a background in Dramatic Arts. She's done a lot of advocacy work
to raise awareness on issues of juvenile delinquency and
social rehabilitation through theatre workshops and dialogues in places
such as Pollsmoore and Goodwood correctional services. She's also worked
with a number of youth organisations supporting education in
disadvantaged communities.
Kindly help me congratulate Shupai on her new role. We are looking forward
to working with her.
Kind regards,
Bobby Shabangu
WikimediaZA President.
Dear All,
On Tuesday the 9nth next week, at 21:00. We are having a discussion with
Mervat Salman from the Wikimedia Foundation about the amendments of the
Universal Code of Conduct. This will affect everyone sharply, so it's
important we have a say on the matter.
Kindly join us on these one hour discussions, and you are free to come and
leave as you wish.
