It's pretty good. It ignores anything inside XML-style tags and non-
word-like text in general. And for that odd term of art, there's
always highlighting the word, right-clicking, and picking either
"Ignore Spelling" or "Learn Spelling." (I try not to do the latter
unless I've checked another source!)

Yea, I briefly considered that, but the other sites (including MW1.4
sites) ARE working with MySQL 5, and this is a spankin' brand new
installation of MacOS X 10.4.3, complete with the latest patches.
<?php phpinfo() ?> reports PHP Version 4.3.4, but I see that it also
reports mysql Client API Version 3.23.49. Sigh. I'll poke around a
bit more...
Is there anything changed between 1.4 and 1.5 that might be using a
new PHP <---> MySQL API?
I *really* don't want to change PHP from the Apple-supplied version
if I don't have to. The last time I did that, my clients' sites were
down for a week while I hunted down various things that broke. I
guess I'll go see what Liyanage is bundling these days...

Thanks Aron.
I'm not usre I understand that part:
Sadly there are not many hooks in the mediawiki source and on needs to be
added to support this extension. Add the line proceeded by a plus into the
right place (indicated by the line number and lines of content) in your
includes/EditPage.php file.
I need to add wfRunHooks( 'EditPageToolbar', array( &$toolbar, NULL ) ); in
EditPage.php?
Also, what is the name of the default skin?

Been working on it. I was waiting for the guy who started the project to
respond but in the mean time I will give you the links. My version is a
proper mediawiki extension but still uses his original javascript. Enjoy.

Another reason why I don't think I need to go there is that
phpMyAdmin 2.7.0-pl1 (latest) is working flawlessly. You'd think that
would exercise the PHP-MySQL interface pretty thoroughly.
I went to Marc Liyanage's site, and it looks like he's got PHP
4.3.11, vs Apple-supplied 4.3.4. So I guess that might be my next step.
But I'm *REALLY* hoping someone will chip in and say "In
LocalSettings.php, change $wgPhpMySQLInterface to 'mungo_jerry" or
something similar. I haven't seen anything like that in the docs,
though...

Hi,
is there a way to use external image links with a thumb preview?
At the moment I copy the image files on my webspace by hand. In the wiki I enter just the URL to the file. So the image is shown correct. But I want to use small pictures as a preview and the user can click on these small images and get the full size image.
Because of huge safe mode problems - I am 3 weeks on it now :-( - I decided not to use image upload function managed by wiki itself.
Thanks, Martin

Well, I touched the GRANT table for the MySQL user for this site, and
re-loaded, and now it gets a bit further. Instead of a stack trace, I
now get the following:

Does this suggest anything?
Again, this site (www.EcoReality.org) was working fine with MySQL
4.0.16, and my other wikis that are at MW1.4 are working fine with
MySQL 5.0.16.

Hi,
I am definitely loogen on as SysOp. When I click 'unprotect' I am asked for a reason for unprotecting this site. No matter what I enter here after I clicked the Confirm button I am redirected to just the same site and the same procedure starts. The site is not unprotected !!!
What can be the reason for such a thing?
Thanks, Martin

Hi,
I have set up a multiple wiki site by putting separate wikis in their
own directories. At this time they are named by their directory
location- that is:-
http://domain.name/language.code/etc.
I have put these entries into the interwiki table as they exist as:-
en http://domain.name/en 0 0
Each wiki has its own database name:- example_en example_da
When I look at wikipedia I see naming such as
http://language.code/domain.name/etc
Can I do this without having to go and register subdomains etc. If so
how? Will the current database structure support this??
I am very new at this so any help appreciated.
Laurie
I just upgraded my server to MySQL 5.0.16 max from 4.0.16.
I host about a dozen websites that use MySQL, and all of them seem to
be working fine, including those that were using MediaWiki 1.4.
But the ONE website that was using MW 1.5.2 is busted! I get the
following stack dump on the Main Page:
Error in fetchObject(): MySQL server has gone away
Backtrace:
GlobalFunctions.php line 451 calls wfbacktrace()
Database.php line 531 calls wfdebugdiebacktrace()
MessageCache.php line 151 calls databasemysql::fetchobject()

LinkCache.php line 162 calls databasemysql::selectfield()
Title.php line 1150 calls linkcache::addlinkobj()
index.php line 86 calls title::getarticleid()
Any quick hints before I go digging deeper?

I have only had the MediaWiki software running for a few days. I deleted a
page from the wiki (don't know if that caused the problem) and now the icons
are missing from the editing window. I verified that the .png files (such
as the button_bold.png) are still in the skins\common\images folder. I
verified that the EditPage.php is intact.
Anybody have any ideas hwo i can get my icons back?
Along with the edit page icons for bold, italic, etc, it seems to have
affected the link to the mediawiki icon at the bottom of the page.
