$wgDBtransactions gets set to true if using InnoDB tables. Is there
an advantage to using InnoDB tables?
The disadvantage is that with MySQL there is a file, ibdata1, that
seems to grow endlessly if InnoDB tables are used. See
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=1341
We're wondering if we should just convert everything to MyISAM. Any
thoughts?

Hi all,
I've created some custom namespaced on one of my wikis, Botwiki
(previously known as pywikipedia).
I've put these lines in my LocalSettings.php file:
- ---
#Custom namespaces
$wgExtraNamespaces =
array(100 => "Manual",
101 => "Manual talk",
102 => "Python",
103 => "Python talk",
104 => "Php",
105 => "Php talk",
106 => "Perl",
107 => "Perl talk",
108 => "AWB",
109 => "AWB talk",
110 => "IRC",
111 => "IRC talk",
112 => "Other",
113 => "Other talk"
);
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 100;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 102;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 104;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 106;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 108;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 110;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 112;
- ---
However, I have a big problem: when I go to a page in one of these new
namespaces (not the discussion, the main ones), for example
http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot , I found the
red link to the discussion page. It's right, as there is no discussion
page for that article. But if you click on it, it brings you to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
correct, of course. But have a look of the article and discussion tabs:
they are both red! The first, "article", leads to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
when it should lead to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot and the second,
"discussion", leads to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Talk:Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_…
, when it should lead to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
.
It's the first time I deal with custom namespaces :-( but I have some
ideas of what it can be. Can the problem be with the
$wgContentNamespaces settings? So it detects everything as ns0? (don't
think so).
Or can it be the fact that I haven't used an underscore in the
$wgExtraNamespaces definition?

I want to moving all pages in a certain namespace (about 60 pages) into
the the "main" namespace. I couldn't find how to do this, so I tried
exporting the pages and importing them and I ran into all sorts of
problems. Is there a way to do what I want without using the import and
export features (and without having to move each of them manually)?
Thanks.
I upgrade wiki.irkutsk to 1.12 version but after this:
I make updating process as in rules.
I run the update.php maintenance script
* MediaWiki version: 1.12.1
* PHP version: 5.2.6 (apache2handler)
* MySQL version: 4.1.22-log
* URL: http://wiki.irkutsk.ru
1. I miss all pages in Help (Справка - in russian)
2. Error on several pages:
«Database::select». MySQL возвратил ошибку «1267: Illegal mix of collations
(cp1251_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (koi8r_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation
'=' (localhost)».
3. When I try to create a new page (create a link, turn it on and edit new
page) - it is not recorded, and an error
«Database::select». MySQL возвратил ошибку «1267: Illegal mix of collations
(cp1251_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (koi8r_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation
'=' (localhost)».
What's wrong? Help!!!!

best regards, Dmitry
Hi all,
Earlier this month I gave a talk at my local Linux users group meeting
about some of the "advanced" functionality of MediaWiki, and how it
could be modified on the "wiki side" without needing a site
administrator's assistance. I thought it might be interesting to some
people on this list.
There is a video of it here: <http://blip.tv/file/1504861> It goes for
55 minutes. You can also download the video source file from that
page.
And you can view the slides here
<http://www.slideshare.net/pfctdayelise/hacking-mediawiki-for-users-presenta…>
or download them from Wikimedia Commons here
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Hacking_MediaWiki_%28For_Users%29_s…>.
The slides and the video are both licensed CC-BY-SA.
I would be happy to receive feedback, if you found it useful, or if
you found I said something incorrect, or if you know some useful trick
that I didn't mention.
cheers,
Brianna

Is there a way to only allow members of certain groups to log on, or to
only allow members of one or more groups to edit certain pages?

Hi
I installed a new wiki (MediaWiki 1.13.2 on Linux/Fedora9/Apache/MySQL)
using the built-in web-config. The content works fine, but pages are
'unstyled' - skins don't seem to be working at all. I haven't changed
the default file layout (ie install in /usr/share/mediawiki/ and site at
/var/www/html/wiki/ ).
Looking in the Apache log, I see errors like this:
[Mon Dec 01 05:50:15 2008] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not
exist: /var/www/html/wiki/skins, referer:
http://127.0.0.1/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
I have tried including the following line in LocalSettings.php:
$wgStyleDirectory = "/usr/share/mediawiki/skins";
but I still get the above error.
Any suggestions?
Should I move the skins directory (currently in
/usr/share/mediawiki/skins/) to somewhere within the site ie move it
into /var/html/wiki/skins/ ?
Thanks
Patrick.
Has anyone on the list had any luck sending html email from mediawiki
instead of plain text? Is it as simple as changing the content type to
text/html? Does anyone have any direction or know of any extensions for
this? I appreciate it.
Kennst sich jemand mit der TeX Erweiterung für die Darstellung
mathematischer Formeln aus? Für mich ist die Installationsanleitung
noch ein böhmisches Dorf.
Gruß
Thomas
