$wgDBtransactions gets set to true if using InnoDB tables. Is there
an advantage to using InnoDB tables?
The disadvantage is that with MySQL there is a file, ibdata1, that
seems to grow endlessly if InnoDB tables are used. See
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=1341
We're wondering if we should just convert everything to MyISAM. Any
thoughts?

Hi all,
I've created some custom namespaced on one of my wikis, Botwiki
(previously known as pywikipedia).
I've put these lines in my LocalSettings.php file:
- ---
#Custom namespaces
$wgExtraNamespaces =
array(100 => "Manual",
101 => "Manual talk",
102 => "Python",
103 => "Python talk",
104 => "Php",
105 => "Php talk",
106 => "Perl",
107 => "Perl talk",
108 => "AWB",
109 => "AWB talk",
110 => "IRC",
111 => "IRC talk",
112 => "Other",
113 => "Other talk"
);
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 100;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 102;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 104;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 106;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 108;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 110;
$wgContentNamespaces[] = 112;
- ---
However, I have a big problem: when I go to a page in one of these new
namespaces (not the discussion, the main ones), for example
http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot , I found the
red link to the discussion page. It's right, as there is no discussion
page for that article. But if you click on it, it brings you to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
correct, of course. But have a look of the article and discussion tabs:
they are both red! The first, "article", leads to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
when it should lead to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot and the second,
"discussion", leads to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Talk:Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_…
, when it should lead to
http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a…
.
It's the first time I deal with custom namespaces :-( but I have some
ideas of what it can be. Can the problem be with the
$wgContentNamespaces settings? So it detects everything as ns0? (don't
think so).
Or can it be the fact that I haven't used an underscore in the
$wgExtraNamespaces definition?

I want to moving all pages in a certain namespace (about 60 pages) into
the the "main" namespace. I couldn't find how to do this, so I tried
exporting the pages and importing them and I ran into all sorts of
problems. Is there a way to do what I want without using the import and
export features (and without having to move each of them manually)?
Thanks.
I upgrade wiki.irkutsk to 1.12 version but after this:
I make updating process as in rules.
I run the update.php maintenance script
* MediaWiki version: 1.12.1
* PHP version: 5.2.6 (apache2handler)
* MySQL version: 4.1.22-log
* URL: http://wiki.irkutsk.ru
1. I miss all pages in Help (Справка - in russian)
2. Error on several pages:
«Database::select». MySQL возвратил ошибку «1267: Illegal mix of collations
(cp1251_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (koi8r_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation
'=' (localhost)».
3. When I try to create a new page (create a link, turn it on and edit new
page) - it is not recorded, and an error
«Database::select». MySQL возвратил ошибку «1267: Illegal mix of collations
(cp1251_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (koi8r_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation
'=' (localhost)».
What's wrong? Help!!!!

(Much good advice about how to do incremental upgrades clipped...)

I believe the OP suggested export/import because they had fallen way
behind, and lacked confidence in an upgrade process that is generally
designed for Wikipedia's needs of strictly sequential incremental
upgrades.
I am in the same situation, running 1.3. Short of upgrading to 1.4,
then 1.5, then 1.6... I don't believe this posting really addresses
strategies for someone who is way behind to "catch up." The further
you are behind, the more likely something will break, no matter how
carefully one follows the instructions for upgrading from 1.13.1 to
1.13.2.
Anyone have any good strategies going from 1.3 to current? I'm
planning on making a complete copy, accessed from a new URL, and
trying the upgrade on that. But I'm doubtful that such an upgrade will
be fruitful.

Hi,
I need to embed the same template on each image description page (the page
you get when you click on a thumbnail image).
I found a similar request here:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/wiki/mediawiki/129846
According to answer given by Brianna (
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/wiki/mediawiki/129448?do=post_view_fl…),
javascript seems to be the easiest solution to insert default text in
summary box.
Since *I don't speak javascript*, I thought it best to ask here. Thanks in
advance for any help.

(sorry for my bad english)
Hi,
after creating the "Main Page" with a report of the last 5 guides created using DynamicPageList they do a search on the categories, but I want see the next text of to the pipe link on the category.
For example:
"[[aiuto_windowsxp_gino|Error gino]] Windows XP" in the results I got "Aiuto windowsxp gino" while I would find "Errore gino" and "Windows XP". The category is defined in "Aiuto windowsxp gino". Someone has any idea?
thanks
Matteo

Hi all,
I would like add into taxobox template a space about biological
database because I would like add into each organism wiki page this
information.. when there are. My goal is add biological database about
Genome project, genome browser and genome annotation for each organism
that has got a wikipedia page. In particular, I would like add link
about NCBI genome project number and general information about
official genome browser and genome annotation data.
I read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Taxobox and I create my
copy into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bilardi/taxobox
I test new piece with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bilardi/taxoboxtest
and I follow step about 'Making changes' paragraph of
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Taxobox until six point:
6. Copy the whole text of User:YOUR USERNAME/taxobox back to
{{Template:Taxobox}}
well, I don't understand how can I go on..
can you help me about?

Hello folks:
We host our support site (www.longjumpsupport.com) from LunarPages. The site
is terribly slow today, either not loading pages (stalling) or timing out.
We upgraded to V1.13 (from 1.12) at the beginning of October, and it has
been working very well until this morning.
I contacted the LunarPages folks, and after asking me what the application
requirements were for MediaWiki (!), they said that the reason is that the *
index.php* file was working too hard/running too many scripts, and causing
the timeouts.
The tech said he would make notes regarding the problem and send them to me,
however I don't know what this data indicates or how to resolve the problem.
Has anyone encountered this before, or have suggestions?
TIA,
Evelyn
