$wgDBtransactions gets set to true if using InnoDB tables. Is there
an advantage to using InnoDB tables?
The disadvantage is that with MySQL there is a file, ibdata1, that
seems to grow endlessly if InnoDB tables are used. See
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=1341
We're wondering if we should just convert everything to MyISAM. Any
thoughts?

Kind of a newbie question... I'm not even sure of the appropriate
taxonomy for my request, maybe that's why Google didn't help.
Using last stable (1.16.2 I believe), I'm trying to achieve this:
Got a default setup, Mediawiki installed in /w, Apache conf edited with
an Alias. So now my wiki is accessible at http://domain.tld/wiki/
I would like to link a specific namespace (let's say "bar") to its own
URL, outside of /foo/.
Ok, to rephrase, hopefully better:
I would like:
domain.tld/wiki/Bar:SomePage
to be in fact:
domain.tld/Bar/SomePage
And if Apache could rewrite on the client side /wiki/Bar:SomePage into
/Bar/SomePage that would be even better, albeit not a deal breaker.
Without breaking anything in MW of course. And if the Recent or Search
tool return the Bar:SomePage that's not an issue, I don't want to
rewrite the MW core :)
Anyone got an idea?
Hi,
is it possible to configure category output, c.f. in a way that certain namespaces are not included?
Specifically, I would like to create category entries through templates, ie. every page using the template would be automatically in the respective category. The template itself, however, should not show up at the category page.
I searched extensions already but could not find anything appropriate so far. Any suggestions?
Many thanks in advance
Bernhard
Hello everybody,
I've got a problem, which is simple, but in spending 14hours in
solving(googling, trying, ...) I havent't found a way to get it work.
I want to write a QGIS PlugIn in eclise IDE - but i cant't do anything,
because:
No module named qgis.core
(tested on eclipse, IDLE, pyscripter)
My QGIS ist in C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS Copiapo,
Python: C:\Python27
So I tested all ways I found in the web, Martin Dobias's blog and so on,
updates everything, changed and added a lot of Paths and PYTHONPATHS
(14h...)
but maybe I'm just a little bit stupid and just didn't took the right path
- any suggestions, which Path it should be, please mail back. Please.I
n [eclipse -> preferences ->pydev] I've already added every Folder of
QGIS, PtQt, Python27 - didn't help.
Is it possible that I understand something wrong?
I've tried to download libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll and add it
seperatly. Nothing.
I may use another IDE than eclipse, I just like it, but if it's not
possible with it (what I don't believe) I can use anotherone.
My first System ist Win7 x64, my second is winXP x86, it does't work one
anyone.
Please help me to find a way (or Path) make it working, it's really
important for me.
If you need some other specifications I didn't list here, please let me
know.
I'm thankful for every answer I'll get, just if you have Ideas, how I
should name the Paths, please let me also know.
yours faithfully
Jens Schwarz
P.S.: If you're able to answer in german-languange it it easier for me to
understand
I am in the process of upgrading from MediaWiki 1.13.3 (r45790), PHP
5.2.11, MySQL 5.1.42 to MediaWiki 1.17.0, PHP 5.2.13, MySQL 5.1.47 on a
Fedora 11 server. I have replicated the production server in a virtual
machine to ensure the upgrade went well. This site is an internal
company Wiki and is not accessible externally.
On the replica virtual machine, I have followed the instructions at the
bottom of http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading, I have made
several attempts using minor variations. After all of these attempts,
none of the images in my Wiki will display, I just get the filename
listed on the page. If I go to the Special:UncategorizedFiles page, none
of the thumbnails are displayed, again just filenames. If I go to the
File: page for an image, the image is not displayed, but all the info
appears correct.
For example:
File:BaselineDiag.png
Size of this preview: 800 × 269 pixels
Full resolution (4,142 × 1,393 pixels, file size: 439 KB, MIME type: image/png)
Baseline Diagram from Visio
I have attempted to run the "maintenance/rebuildImages.php" script with
no success, no output at all, which concerned me.
I have attempted this with both $wgUseImageMagick = true; and
$wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "/usr/bin/convert"; set and with these
entries commented out.
The images (445) all displayed fine before the upgrade but not after.

Hello folks,
we have 12 open positions in Wikimedia engineering right now, and a
few more will go up in coming weeks. If you have connections, we'd
appreciate your help hiring for these roles, forwarding this note to
appropriate listservs, tweeting it, etc.
The full listing is at
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Job_openings , but here are some
key roles that we need help with:
1) Product Managers: We're looking for great people to act as product
owners for three very important initiatives:
- New editor engagement: helping Wikimedia to attract, nurture and
retain new contributors.
- Analytics: supporting the development of systems and tools for
measuring our impact.
- Mobile: helping us reach hundreds of millions of people on mobile
devices and engaging hundreds of thousands of them to contribute in
useful ways.
The product manager role at WMF entails grooming and prioritizing the
product backlog, engaging with the Wikimedia community, commissioning
and organizing research, hands-on testing, but also helping with
across-the-board priorities triage for ongoing product development.
These folks don't have to be product managers by trade, but they need
to be comfortable negotiating compromise while holding the product
vision. They need to treat engineers as equal partners, and be
excellent communicators. Ideally they have strong domain expertise
relevant to their focus area.
We have two of these currently posted:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Job_openings/Product_Manager_(Features)http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Job_openings/Product_Manager_(Analytics)
The mobile one will go up soon, and we'll refine the definition
further. But please use these as reference points for now.
2) Analytics Engineers: We're hiring for two systems engineers to
build out our analytics infrastructure. What exists so far is still
fairly rudimentary, so we need to build scalable logging and tracking
systems for various purposes, e.g.
- geographic breakdown of access and editing activity
- usage data for specific features; A/B testing of features
- search activity, real-time editor retention measures, new activity
visualizations, and more ..
The ideal candidate here likely is someone who's very strong building
out large scale distributed systems, and has experience with NoSQL
technologies, distributed computing, etc.
The relevant JD is here:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Job_openings/Systems_Engineer_-_Data_An…
3) A strong QA Lead who can help us write and perform test plans with
shoestring and duct tape, i.e. using a combination of test automation,
work with outside vendors, and volunteer-driven testing to strengthen
our product quality. The relevant JD is here:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Job_openings/QA_Lead
4) Strong frontend and backend engineers: for features development,
code review, deployment and release management support, and so forth.
Demonstrable open source experience is always a major plus, and while
PHP is learnable, not being predisposed against it helps. :-)

Your outreach and support is always appreciated.
All best,
Erik
