Even if the email addresses can’t be removed, I was hoping they could at-least be automatically transformed into images or with “at” replacements in the address. Similar transformation is performed at other places on gossamer threads’ archives, it should be possible to do it in the “From” area of message bodies too.
In fact, the archives site even has the following in their FAQ:
Q. How do you protect users email addresses from harvesters?
A. We make every effort to stop people from harvesting emails from the site. Currently, we encode, strip and transform all email addresses we can find (including parsing the message body for emails that show up in forwards). The only place the email address is viewable is by clicking on the user, and we embed the email in an image to prevent harvesting.
I tried contacting them through https://www.gossamer-threads.com/contact/, but didn’t get a reply. I was hoping if someone from the Wikimedia foundation contacted them, they would be more motivated to reply back.
Regards,
Wikimedia Levant arranged to start teaching Wikipedia material as a
chapter in an IT course for first year students in the University of
Jordan. 18k students :)
Pushing 18k students directly to Wikipedia will lead a certain IP
Range blocks by the admins, as they can hardly keep up with vandalism.
Certainly they will not have the time to take care of all these students
mistakes and destruction expected at the beginning.
We rented a server in Germany, to install a copy of mediawiki and have
Arabic, English, Japaneses, Russian and other dumps of Wikipedia. This
will provide a buffer, and safe environment for the students to work,
destroy and learn.
As a start, we are having problems installing Arabic Wikipedia. We
used the latest dump, but for some reason, not all article where
reflected on the site.
example (Jordan Article) is missing :
http://ar.wikimedialevant.org/index.php?title=%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D8%B1%D…
Plus, almost all pages have errors (could be due to use of Arabic
ParserFunctions)
example:
http://ar.wikimedialevant.org/index.php?title=%D9%86%D9%87%D8%B1_%D8%A7%…
And, of course the main problem is having different languages. We have
no idea how to add more than languages on the servers :(
The users from Arabic Wikipedia, and Wikimedia Levant community will
help running the servers as Local Admins.
Any help installing the servers is appreciated. Actually we are begging
here :S
Thanks for all

Merci mille fois !!

Hello everyone,
"Fantastic MediaWikis and How to Maintain Them" is a one-day conference track designed for people who work with the open source software MediaWiki in their organisation, company or business [1]. The conference track is curated by the MediaWiki Stakeholders Group and hosted by Wikimedia Austria.
The track is part of Wikimedia's biggest annual tech-event, the Wikimedia Hackathon [2]: For three days each year, about 200 developers come together to improve MediaWiki. Among the participants are coders from the Wikimedia Foundation as well as volunteers from all over the world.
We're using this opportunity to connect the people who work with MediaWiki in their enterprise, company, or organisation to the people who actually develop the code. We invite all MediaWiki stakeholders - power-users, maintainers, and service providers, who have a professional or semi-professional interest in the software - to join us for a day full of MediaWiki knowledge and networking!
This is a call for participation. We are specifically looking for contributions of your experience in running MediaWikis. These include but are not confined to:
* Use Cases. Tell us how and why you use MediaWiki in a specific area or to solve a specific problem.
* Best Practices. Talk about the most effective way you have found to use particular MediaWiki features.
* Enhancements. Have you improved MediaWiki to fit your needs? Show us your solution.
* Challenges. How can we all add to MediaWiki functionality? Do you have specific ideas you want to collaborate on?
Share your experience and submit a presentation here:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Stakeholders%27_Group/Fantastic_Me…
Important dates:
* 20th March 2017: Call for Participation opens
* 5th April 2017: Submission deadline
* 10th April 2017: Notification of acceptance
* 19th - 21st May 2017: Vienna Hackathon
We are looking forward to your submissions!
Best,

(1) Thanks ruud for helping in my first email. This problem is solved.
(2) My second (and at the moment last) question is:
The Media Viewer isn't available in my personal wiki. The help writes, that this feature is enabled by default but there is nothing. Making it easier for you to give me some hints, I create a public playground with exact the same settings like my personal wiki.

I really like this feature and want it. So I need your help again. Thanks. Martin
