I distinctly remember there was a way to add a title to a special page simply by entering in a URL, then adding the title to the wiki edit field, and then saving. The new "writing a new special page" how-to is very confusing - and it wants me to write PHP to get the title to show up. There was an easier way... I can't find this how-to anywhere- though I'm sure it used to exist. FX can you walk me through how you've added a wiki page title to a special page? I just figured out how to build a new special page which is like the Uncategorized pages page, but looks at the Image namespace. Are there any good resources for writing scripts and gadgets

I'm currently trying to adapt several gadgets that are meant for wikis using the Monobook/Vector skins to the Monaco skin, and so far, I've managed to successfully port over the UTC Clock gadget and Sandbox page gadget to Monaco, but aside from those I've been having trouble since, frankly, my knowledge of Javascript/JQuery is slim and I'm not familiar with all the variables used in writing user scripts. I've fairly decent with CSS style sheets, but I still need help with Javascript, so does anyone know of some good resources I could look into, preferably tailored for writing scripts on MediaWiki? Also, if anyone wants to see what I have done so far (and have released publicly), the wiki I have been testing my live gadget/user script code on is here: https://mediawikitesters.orain.org/wiki/Main_Page

Recent parser change regarding tildes in comments?

Has the parser just been changed with regards to tildes (~~~~) inside HTML comments? It appears they used to be ignored, and are now suddenly being replaced en masse the next time someone edits the page (and can't be easily reverted - it just changes the sig to the reverter's instead). Wikibase on third-party wikis

Hi, I'm trying to use Wikibase on my pool wiki and language wikis. In my pool wiki, I can create properties and items, but I can't add site links to them. ID: "Q1", site id: "cswiki", site link: "article name" gives me the error "The specified article could not be found on the corresponding site." even though that article exists on cswiki. I also can't access data from the language wikis. If I use {{#property:P1}} in an article on cswiki, nothing shows up. I downloaded Wikidata-refs-heads-master.tar.gz and extracted it to the extension folder of my pool wiki and language wikis. And should I change site_group of the pool to mypedia like I did with the language wikis or isn't that necessary? Wikibase DataModel 0.8, Wikibase Repository 0.5 alpha, WikibaseLib 0.5 alpha and Wikidata show up in Special:Version of the pool wiki. Wikibase Client 0.5 alpha, Wikibase DataModel 0.8, WikibaseLib 0.5 alpha and Wikidata show up in Special:Version of the language wikis. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks and cheers, Till

File descriptions aren't fetched

Hi, I'm running multiple language wikis and one pool wiki. The problem is that no file descriptions are fetched in the language wikis although $wgFetchCommonsDescriptions is set to true. LocalSettings.php of the language wikis: $wgUseSharedUploads = true; $wgSharedUploadPath = 'http://pool.example.com/w/images'; $wgSharedUploadDirectory = '/path/to/pool/w/images/'; $wgHashedSharedUploadDirectory = true; $wgFetchCommonsDescriptions = true; $wgSharedUploadDBname = 'poolwiki'; # DB-Name of PoolWiki #$wgSharedUploadDBprefix = 'wiki_'; # Table name prefix for PoolWiki $wgRepositoryBaseUrl = "http://pool.example.com/wiki/Image:"; ForeignAPIRepo used to work fine before, but since I switched from Apache to Nginx, no images show up anymore in the language wikis. cldr not installing properly

I am attempting to install cldr. In previous installations, I have not had any issues with this extension and is currently live at wiki.seg.org. When working on updating the Mediawiki software from 1.23.2 to 1.26.2, after installing several other extensions, I get this message in the command prompt when attempting to update the database after installing cldr. Painful Short-URL

Heiya, this is painful for me. There is a wiki accessible with the following logic: "http://example.com/wiki/Main_Page" When I edit I have: "http://example.com/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&action=edit" To get this magic running I have the following RewriteRules: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/?wiki(/.*)?$ %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/w/index.php [L] RewriteRule ^/?$ %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/w/index.php [L] And in "LocalSettings.php": $wgScriptPath = "/w"; $wgScriptExtension = ".php"; $wgArticlePath = "/wiki/$1"; $wgUsePathInfo = true; // true or false does not make a difference Everything is cool until I dare to try accessing a page containing a special character, e.g. "http://example.com/wiki/So_ein_Ärger" and end up in an indefinite redirect loop. This wiki is a MW 1.26.2. Any hint out there? Never encountered anything similar. Admittedly not my first wiki. Thanks and cheers Karsten

Varnish hit ratio tanked after MW 1.26 upgrade

I recently upgraded my wikis from 1.24.2 to 1.26.2 and I'm trying to diagnose why my Varnish hit ratios (4 web servers) dropped from ~85% to ~37%. Nothing in my Varnish configuration or VCL changed. For what it's worth, I allocate 4 GB to Varnish. I'm fairly sure it has to do with image/thumbnail caching, since there's about 30 GB worth of thumbnails across all five wikis, though 12 GB of that is for our biggest and most heavily trafficked wiki. (FWIW, I did change vcl_recv() last year to strip cookies from thumbnail images and that improved overall performance while maintaining a high hit ratio.) The Varnish n_lru_nuked stat is growing rapidly as well, so it's definitely using all of the memory and having to make room for new stuff. Any thoughts on what might be causing this degradation, or at least how to diagnose it?

MediaWiki 1.26.x question

Dear Teammates, The MediaWiki 1.26.x wiki loads extensions this way: wfLoadExtension( 'Cite' ); wfLoadExtension( 'ImageMap' ); wfLoadExtension( 'ParserFunctions' ); Is that supposed to be how to load all extensions nowadays ? Or will some of them still be loaded thisaway with require_once ? require_once "$IP/extensions/VisualEditor/VisualEditor.php"; I'm confused, please help. Lori
