I distinctly remember there was a way to add a title to a special page simply by entering in a URL, then adding the title to the wiki edit field, and then saving. The new "writing a new special page" how-to is very confusing - and it wants me to write PHP to get the title to show up. There was an easier way... I can't find this how-to anywhere- though I'm sure it used to exist. FX can you walk me through how you've added a wiki page title to a special page? I just figured out how to build a new special page which is like the Uncategorized pages page, but looks at the Image namespace. Are there any good resources for writing scripts and gadgets

I'm currently trying to adapt several gadgets that are meant for wikis using the Monobook/Vector skins to the Monaco skin, and so far, I've managed to successfully port over the UTC Clock gadget and Sandbox page gadget to Monaco, but aside from those I've been having trouble since, frankly, my knowledge of Javascript/JQuery is slim and I'm not familiar with all the variables used in writing user scripts. I've fairly decent with CSS style sheets, but I still need help with Javascript, so does anyone know of some good resources I could look into, preferably tailored for writing scripts on MediaWiki? Also, if anyone wants to see what I have done so far (and have released publicly), the wiki I have been testing my live gadget/user script code on is here: https://mediawikitesters.orain.org/wiki/Main_Page

Recent parser change regarding tildes in comments?

Has the parser just been changed with regards to tildes (~~~~) inside HTML comments? It appears they used to be ignored, and are now suddenly being replaced en masse the next time someone edits the page (and can't be easily reverted - it just changes the sig to the reverter's instead). showing Parsoid/npm version on Special:Version page?

Hello.. I am successfully running VisualEditor 0.1.0 (93528b7) on MW 1.28.2 but I don't know the exact version of the Parsoid service I am using nor do I know how to confirm that I have npm installed (not sure if that's even required for me).. I just know that I slugged through a lot of things that were new to me in getting to this point. I know MW communicates Apache, PHP and the Database elements on the version page (along with the extensions), but I don't see anything there about Parsoid and/or NPM.. is that something that might be added someday as VisualEditor becomes more ubiquitous with MW? In the meantime, I have put together a handy little script that gets all the versions of the other core elements that I need to pay attention to. It is as follows: cat /etc/redhat-release httpd -v php -v mysql -V I was wondering, are there commands that I could add to this list that would report Parsoid and NPM? I have tried "npm --version" but this results in "bash: npm: command not found" so I'm not sure npm is needed Any thoughts on how to definitively get the Parsoid service version from the cli? One-time per logon pop-up notification for site acknowledgment.

Hi, I have been developing a corporate web-app based on MW 1.28.2 in an private enterprise network setting and my organization now requires me to generate a one-time per logon Pop-Up banner/notification for users to acknowledge that all organizational policies must be adhered to when using the site and no expectation of privacy, etc... Has anyone done anything similar to this? Any advice for me on how to implement it? An Extension? A special JavaScript on the server? .. I'm just an intermediate web-programmer and would love to know what the experts here would advise with respect to a Mediawiki installation. Thanks in advance! -Rich

Active users getting the wrong number

Hi, I was expecting to see by the {{NUMBEROFACTIVEUSERS}} to show the same number of users as the Special:ActiveUsers page. Am I right? If so, what could be happening for those numbers to diverge? Mediawiki version 1.29.1 on MariaDB. (cruzeiropedia.org) Thanks, Eduardo

Troubles when using the Lockdown extension

Heiya, as many of you know the Lockdown extension is not very well interacting with MediaWiki and other extensions since MediaWiki 1.27. Several bugs were reported and some of them were already fixed to make this extension work somehow. Many thanks to all people involved! The current big issue appears to be that API interaction is broken due to some bad caching of user groups as described here: [0] in this comment [1] and in this attempted [2] fix which is currently stuck. Perhaps there is even another issue, perhaps all of the observations are unrelated to each other and consitute seperate issues to the problem. I am not sure. Since this is one of the most popular extensions (top 15 according to the extension distributor and top 50 on WikiApiary) ... Perhaps there is somebody out there who may be able to fix this issue for the extension's use community.
