Hi I am very happy with mediawiki so far. I got it up and running pretty
easy but now have two questions that I can't find answers for in the
documentation or mailing list.
Question 1: I would like the have the same skin as the mediawiki and
encyclopedia site. Especially with the tabs across the top. However in
LocalSettings.php only cologneblue works for $wgDefaultSkin =
'cologneblue'; If I set it to something else the default skin appears. Is
monobook the skin that mediawiki uses?
Question 2: Is there anyway to reference the contents of another page to
be included inline in the current page? I have a collection of pages that
I would like to have a link with the option to view all the pages compiled
into one page.
Question 3: How do I make an external link open in a separate window
instead of the current wiki window?

Hi there,
I need help with creating/using templates. I tried to made one for
navigation purpose inserting a title and a changing number into a link set
in the template like

and template looking like this
Chapter {}
Problem is there is automatically added the "edit"-option to the link and
that way the link (though correct and page existing) always leads to the
editing-function (with the pagetext appearing in the window).
Can someone please help me with this? How can I suppress the edit-option
or how else can I fix this??
Thanks,
ED
Hi,
I copied all the Media Wiki 1.3.2 files into my 1&1 (www.1and1.com)
webspace, set up 1&1 to create a database, chmod 777 the config directory
and ran the install web page...sadly, it hung after I submitted all my
details (database name, etc).
Has anyone else run into this problem? What's the solution?
Here's all that was on my webpage after submitting the database info:
MediaWiki 1.3.2 installation
Please include all of the lines below when reporting installation problems.
Checking environment...
PHP 4.3.8: ok
Warning: PHP's register_globals option is enabled. MediaWiki will work
correctly, but this setting increases your exposure to potential security
vulnerabilities in PHP-based software running on your server. You should
disable it if you are able.
PHP server API is cgi; using ugly URLs (index.php?title=Page_Title)
Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
PHP's memory_limit is 40M. If this is too low, installation may fail!
Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
Found GD graphics library built-in, image thumbnailing will be enabled if
you enable uploads.

MediaWiki 1.3.3 is a bug fix release. In particular upgrading is
recommended to anyone running a non-English wiki where some links
mysteriously don't work in 1.3.2.
Changes from 1.3.2:
* Fix for long numeric page titles
* Fix Go search for "0", numeric almost-self-links
* Avoid caching of pages with "You have new messages" headers
* Fix for upgrades as non-root users from 1.2 command-line installs.
* Fix for $wgDebugDumpSql debug mode.
* $wgExtraNamespaces setting for configuring additional namespaces
~ (see note in DefaultSettings.php)
* 'recache' on query pages now disabled when miser mode is on; special
~ case the global settings in your LocalSettings.php to do automatic
~ updates.
* Don't block UTF-8 titles containing byte 0xA0 (bug added in 1.3.2)
* Watch/unwatch tabs now shown on edit pages in MonoBook.
* Fix default skin in Irish localization (ga)
* Add Traditional Chinese localization (zh-tw)
* Changed default sortkey of subcategories. Don't include "Category:"
~ prefix any longer
* More helpful info on spam catcher.
* Allow larger offsets for queries such as Special:Listusers
* Semicolon (;) added to French non-break space rules
* Possible fix for some install errors with path names permission
~ problems.
* Removed Project:All system messages, which has been superceded by
~ the much faster Special:Allmessages. This speeds up installation
~ considerably.
Anyone still running the 1.3 beta releases is _strongly_ recommended to
upgrade to the current code due to numerous fixed bugs and a security
vulnerability in the betas with some PHP configurations.
Note that while MediaWiki through 1.1 required register_globals to be
on, 1.2 and 1.3 *do not*. If you have register_globals on, you should
turn it off unless you are absolutely sure you require it for some other
package. See http://php.net/register_globals for general information.

I got an additional bar to show by editing xhtml_slim.pt, but it only shows on linked pages (i.e. not the main page). How do I make changes to the main page?
Dear All,
I've just been trying to install MediaWiki on a Windows XP (SP2) box for
development purposes. Eventually the wiki will be hosted on a Linux
box. My basic configuration is Apache 2.0.50, PHP 4.3.8, and MySQL 4.1
beta (needed for another project). After supplying all the
configuration parameters I get the following output:
MediaWiki 1.3.2 installation
Please include all of the lines below when reporting installation problems.
Checking environment...
* PHP 4.3.8: ok
* PHP server API is apache2handler; ok, using pretty URLs
(index.php/Page_Title)
* Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
* PHP is configured with no memory_limit.
* Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
* Found GD graphics library built-in, image thumbnailing will be
enabled if you enable uploads.
* Installation directory: C:\\Apache\\Apache2\\htdocs\\cvc
* Script URI path: /cvc
* Warning: $wgProxyKey is insecure Connected as root (automatic)
* Connected to database... 4.1.3-beta-nt; enabling MySQL 4
enhancementsWarning: $wgProxyKey is insecure
* Database wikidb exists
* Creating tables... done.
* Initializing data...
* Granting user permissions...
Sorry! The wiki is experiencing some technical difficulties, and
cannot contact the database server.
I have tried this using the automated AND manual DB / user creation. I
have created the mysql user as follows:
mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'wikiuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED
BY 'password' WITH GRANT OPTION;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'wikiuser'@'holly' IDENTIFIED BY
'password' WITH GRANT OPTION;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
...so I would have thought the user should have all the database
privileges it needs. Does anybody have any idea why I can't get the
installation to work properly? I've searched the web but to no avail:
lots of people reporting this error message in slightly different
circumstances, but mostly nobody has been able to provide any assistance.
I'd be really grateful if anybody does know why this is happening
because I simply can't make any progress with my project until it is fixed.
Many thanks,
Bart Read
