My wiki works fine..but at times it works VERY slow and sometimes
doesn't even load the stylesheet. It seems to be happening a lot more
recently. Is this because I haven't done the rewrite mod? (I don't
even know how to do that..i don't want to screw anything up).
Please help me, thanks.

This is the deal; I upgraded from 1.3.beta to 1.3.1. On a bunch of pages, it
turned "linkname" to "linkname!" where linkname used to be a link and it is not
anymore, and "!" is the link to the page.
How the [SENSORED] do I get rid of the damn "!"! I tried editing the pages,
deleting the pages, recreating the pages, but it doesn't want to go away! This
is driving me nuts!

Hi,
just a question to developers:
Have there been any attempts to use some kind of external authentication
for mediawiki? Any source where I can grab code from?
I am looking for ways to use mediawki in an intranet environment with
a) http authentication: mediawiki recognizes a user as "logged in" if he
has already logged in through http (401 request)
b) ldap authentication: mediawiki recognizes a user as "logged in" if an
ldap server has granted access. Either directly (= medaiwiki asking ldap
itself) or "indirectly" through an apache module like mod_auth_ldap.
In the ldap case, it would also be interesting if it is possible to get
authorization info ("who is allowed to do what") not from the mediawiki
sql database, but from an ldap server.
Thanks,
Thommie

Wikipedia != Authoritative?

Frozen North writes "Recently, this article in the Syracuse Post-Standard
caused a stir by dismissing Wikipedia as an authoritative source, and even
suggesting that it was a little deceptive by looking too much like a "real"
encyclopedia. Techdirt suggested an experiment: insert bogus information
into Wikipedia, and see how long it takes for the mistake to be removed.
Well, I did that experiment, and the results weren't good: five errors
inserted over five days, all of which lasted until I removed them myself at
the end of the experiment."
I installed 1.3.2 today. After the install it placed "Retrieved from " and the link to the same page. I assume this is because it used my old database, but how do i get rid of the "Retreived from" messages at the bottom of all my pages?
sorry if you get this twice, i sent it first through the wrong email address
Yes, you right, it worked with root user. Thanks
But now when I search for "Einstein" it gives me empty page.
What could this be?

I've looked and looked and I can't find the documentation for exporting pages. How do I export all the current versions of my pages? My plan is to export them, then import them into a fresh install of 1.3.2.

Thanks for help regarding the Creation of uncreated pages...I have a
few more questions.
Why is my website rather slow? Is there any way to speed it up? I
have DSL and it takes me 4-5 seconds to load each page...not instant.
Visit http://fantasygenre.com.
Secondly, is there any discussion board out there that can be created
for MediaWiki support rather than just a mailing list? If not, can I
create one where people can post questions, etc. (i'd take on all the
responsibilities/money for domain/hosting etc. since I own a server).
Thanks once again.

My apologies ~
re: I don't want to modify any existing link, I want to insert a new one in
and
I am still stumped.
I forgot that to see changes I needed to clear my browser cache! (Please
excuse me - shift work has befuddled my brain) My new link external to the
wiki now shows in the nav bar.
All one needs to do is (as Brion stated previously), is insert a link with
the full url into the appropriate position
within the xhtml_slim.pt and the link will show up.
Thanks for the answers (and patience) all!
Cheers,
Cameron
