hi,
i have nearly got it to work, except search is not working. i have
tried different combinations of rewritrules, but to no avail. what i
use is given below, based on the entry in meta.wikipedia. obviously
i don't know mod_rewrite well enough to go much beyond.
i am using mediawiki 1.3.1 installed in /wiki/. the .htaccess file
is in /wiki/.
The LocalSettings.php variables are:
$wgScriptPath = "/wiki";
$wgScript = "$wgScriptPath/index.php";
$wgRedirectScript = "$wgScriptPath/redirect.php";
$wgArticlePath = "$wgScriptPath/$1";
Thanks in advance for your help.

I need help with the search feature and creating new pages. On
wikipedia.com there is an option to "Create a new article" or "submit
a request for the article", I would like this to be displayed in my
search results as well (as that is the only way I understand that
articles can be created through the webpage).
Also, is there anywhere that a command is there like: "Create New
Entry Page" or something? Would be much easier...thanks.

Cameron,
To remove users, just start up a mysql session and entered commands like
delete from user where user_name = 'username';
Before you do this, make sure there are no contributions by the user. If there are, then either the username is actually valid after all, or they have created another username and you need to move their contributions from the old username to the new one with statements like:
update old set old_user_text = 'newusername' where old_user = 99;
update cur set cur_user_text = 'newusername' where cur_user = 99;
update recentchanges set rc_user_text = 'newusername' where rc_user = 99;
update archive set ar_user_text = 'newusername' where ar_user = 99;
update image set img_user_text = 'newusername' where img_user = 99;
update old set old_user = 88 where old_user = 99;
update cur set cur_user = 88 where cur_user = 99;
update recentchanges set rc_user = 88 where rc_user = 99;
update archive set ar_user = 88 where ar_user = 99;
update image set img_user = 88 where img_user = 99;
where 88 is their old user_id and 99 is their new user_id.
I think there is a script for this somewhere but I can't remember the name. Anyone else know?

Subject: [Mediawiki-l] User List
Greetings,
This my first post, so I would like to thank the developers of MediaWiki, it
is great.
I have set up a Wiki for my workplace and I was wondering if there is an
easy way to remove users from the user list (some incorrect names were
entered with account creation) I am a newbie to php and database stuff (my
server uses MySQL) so please bear with me.
Regards
Cameron

Apologies for any groans of "not again" this question may generate :-)
I have tried to follow previous threads regarding modifying the navigation
links in the wiki sidebar, but it all seems to be rather complex to me. I
wish to check with more experienced people than I prior to doing anything
silly and completely stuffing things up on my wiki ~
To make a link in the nav bar to Special:AllPages (ie make a link to an
index of all pages in the wiki) do I insert this (below) into SkinPHPTal.php
code?
$nav_urls['allpages'] = array('href' => htmlspecialchars(
$this->makeSpecialUrl('Allpages')));
and also in xhtml_slim.pt:
<li id="n-allpages"><a href="${nav_urls/allpages/href}"
i18n:translate="string:allpages">All Pages</a></li> ??
Also what is the difference between:
makeSpecialUrl and makeI18nUrl? - Should I have one or the other in the
SkinPHPTal.php code?
Would this work or have I got it wrong? Are there any other files I need to
modify?
(This next bit is probably more complex, so I understand if there is not a
straightforward answer) -
How does one make external links using all the syntax above? Or even say a
link to a php page sitting just above the wiki directory on my server?
I see that the topic of modifying links in the nav bar has come up a few
times. Is there a tutorial or a step-by-step walkthrough anywhere, say at
MetaWiki or somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to give.

Hi,
My user preferences are not getting saved. It's unlikely
that it's a browser refresh problem, because I don't see any
changes occurring in the "user" table in the DB after
saving. This happens with both the admin user and another
user. Both also have user_rights: sysop,bureaucrat
Manually changing a user's record, in the DB, does show up
in the browser, when it is refreshed.
This is a first time installation, so I don't think this
ever worked after I installed. In the DB, I'm using the
'root' user with no password, because that is the only thing
that works. So it is unlikely that it is a DB user
permission problem. Other things seem to be working as
expected (page creating, editing, etc).
For details about my install process and versions, see my
earlier post:

Hi Brion,
Thanks for the insights.
Sorry for asking basic questions, but how do I edit
the Special:Allmessages page?

See [[Special:Allmessages]] on your wiki.

Thanks to those who narrowed down the source of this problem: if you're
getting the database error when it's trying to convert the link tables,
this is because it's mistakenly switching from the root connection to
the database down to the less-privileged account which is unable to
alter the table structures.
Here's a patch which will keep it using the root login during this step:
http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-cvs/2004-September/003424.html
Note that if you don't have MySQL root access _at all_, you may need to
provide the old $wgDBadminuser and $wgDBadminpass as the database
username and password to the new installer.
