mw_searchindex crashing

Anyone else noticing mw_searchindex showing up as a "crashed table" fairly frequently? "mysqlrepair" seems to fix it -- for a while -- but I get nervous when database errors happen... Mediawiki installation issues

Hi list, I am trying to install MediaWiki, I have connected to the web server http://webserver/wiki/config/index.php and clicked on install: It's coming up with it can't connect to the server, I tried reloading several times it is same thing. Could some one shed some light on this: MediaWiki 1.6.5 Installation Don't forget security updates! Keep an eye on the low-traffic release announcements mailing list. Checking environment... Thanks Rob. I've dug through EditPage.php - and that's where i first found out that wpEdittime was used to determine edit conflicts. I haven't been able to find EditForm.php - did you mean EditPage.php? I'm trying to pull off a quick and dirty hack that displays a persistent 'add comment' form at the bottom of talk pages. I've created a simple form with only a 'preview' button. This way i haven't had to worry about the complexities of submitting an article. My form just sends the data to the standard mediaWiki preview screen. Before 1.6 i didn't need to include wpEdittime in my form. Now in 1.6 i need it or i get an edit conflict. So i added an extra hidden field to my html form: input type="hidden" value="" name="wpEdittime" and I tried using $wgArticle->mTouched as the value, and it seemed to work fine. It allowed me to submit without any edit conflicts. If this is not the right variable to use for this value, is there another i should be using? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Problem with images in WikiMedia

I have installed WikiMedia 1.6.7 and trying to import all data from the norwegian WikiPedia. I have all the articles and templates and this is working fine. The problem is images, i have downloaded the 3 GB of images and put them in the /images catalog, imported the image.sql and the imagelinks.sql, it seems like these files are not complete, because my wiki displays some images ( i find them in the image table in mysql ) but most images is not visible, just shows a red link. Any suggestions? Another question: Must I import the datadumps in any spesific order? Bacth deletion of pages

Hi all, I'd like to delete a large number of pages from my wiki and was wondering if there was any easy way to do so (i.e. - asides from manually going into each one and deleting it). I was thinking to do so by removing rows from the PAGE table in mysql, but am afraid that links to the deleted pageIDs from other tables will bar me from doing this without the system crashing. Does anyone have a clue ? Thanks, Shai

MediaWiki logo experiments

As MediaWiki 2.0 is slowly moving closer, I think we should consider replacing the current logo. The problems I have with it (and I say that as its co-designer) are that the colors feel washed out, the flower is asymmetrical, and the square brackets look just a tad bit too square and ordinary. I found a very nice flower photograph on Commons, and decided to experiment with it a bit. The result can be found at: http://scireview.de/wiki/logos/ The flower used here looks more like something airbrushed than a straight crop of a photo (even though it is the latter), which I think is an advantage for a logo. I do like the notion of using a complex flower rather than a purely stylized one; I think that this is allowable in the context of an entirely web-based product. I think the colors/brightness and the brackets could use some tweaking. I'm also not sure if I prefer the version with a shadow behind the flower or the one without (the two people who have sent me feedback so far prefer the one with, I have a slight preference for without). If you want to play with it, there's an XCF link for editing in the GIMP; all the elements of the picture are represented there as layers. For favicon size, we probably want to draw something from scratch rather than resizing the logo. In the "Powered by" button size, it could use some tweaking (perhaps some pre-processing before scaling down). I'd appreciate your comments on these experiments. Perhaps we should start an open logo process when MediaWiki 2.0 comes within grasp. Erik

action=purge

I've noticed a change in the behaviour of adding action=purge to an url in 1.6 ... it now sometimes displays a form asking the user if they want to clear the page's cache? I can't get it to repeat consistently. Sometimes it displays and sometimes it does not. i've searched the archives and mediawiki.org, but can't find any mentions of this. A couple of quick questions: When and why is the 'Do you want to clear the page's cache' form displayed? Is there a way of performing a purge without displaying this form? Thanks in advance
