We are upgrading apache, MySQL, php and MediaWiki all at once.
MediaWiki is going from 1.6.5. to 1.6.7
I have a ton of images uploaded.
Copying the images directory without migrating the database wouldn't do
anything would it?
I have all of the image files stored on my computer. Is there a nice
way to batch upload them to the new site once it gets created?

All the information is stored in the database so if you use a separate
database server you don't have anything to worry about. If they are on
the same server you should do a database dump, use your usual database
management software phpMySQL etc...
You should also copy of the localsettings.php file from the root of the
wiki directory, and the images directory.

Are there any scripts out there to save a copy of all pages? Are these
pages already saved as files somewhere or are they in a database
somewhere?
The server I am working on is getting upgraded tomorrow and I don't want
to go through the browser and go into edit on each page and copy /
paste.

Every other day I see a message saying "Sorry! This site is
experiencing technical difficulties. Try waiting a few minutes and
reloading. (Can't contact the database server: Can't connect to local
MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) (localhost))"
A restart of the MySQL database seems to fix it then after another
couple of days it goes down again.
Any ideas what may be wrong or how to fix this?

David Harvey and others has been working hard on Blahtex, the next
generation in MediaWiki math rendering technology. Visit http://
www.blahtex.org/ for more information and http://wiki.blahtex.org/go/
Main_Page for a running demo hosted by Jitse Niesen.
Harvey suggests that blahtex will afford a significant performance
advantage, but the main impetus is the ability to render MathML.
Support for MathML is not widespread at the moment, so the need for
Blahtex is not urgent, but it is the future, and we have reason to
believe that Wikipedia's adoption could goad browser developers to
speed their efforts (the answer to the old chicken and egg of who
comes first, browser support or use by web pages could be: Wikipedia
comes first).
It has to happen someday, and today is as good a day as any. Harvey
says the software is ready for the next step, and wants to move
forward, but doesn't know whom to talk to in order to make this
happen. I'm writing you to voice my full support for Harvey's and
Niesen's efforts, to open up a dialogue and find out what needs to be
done to take the next step towards rolling this software out, and to
ask if there is anything I can do to help the developers to get this
software ready for deployment.
Thanks

Was wondering if there was anything special, other than the instructions
provided with WikiSpeller.
It does not seem to work under RHEL 4 and mediawiki 1.6.6

Is there a simple way I can list '''Recent changes''' so that changes
done by myself are not listed?
Because of the way '''Recent changes''' are listed it is hard for me to
spot among my own hundreds of edits the few edits done by others that I
want to patrol.
Thanks,
Roger

I want to set up the search ability but so far I am stumbling around
half-blind trying to figure it out from odd snippets here and there from old
posts.
Is there a URL which describes in an orderly manner what I need to do to set
up the search facility?
Thanks,
Hugh
Actually what i do is creating a db backup right after setting up wiki,
when it's empty and then when i want to clear everything i just restore
this backup. I was just hoping for some extension :). Thanks anyway.
Backup and restore method works for me.

The quickest method is to DROP the database, re-create it, and re-run
the web-based installer script.

Hi there,
running MediaWiki 1.5.8 (prod) and 1.6.8 (test) we use a remote database for user authentication.
Since we began that, the user count in Special:Statistics doesn't renew even new user records are added!
It seems the code doesn't flow over LoginForm->addNewAccountInternal() ?
-> Do we have do add this anywhere in our auth extension?
-> Any other suggestions for analyzing or fixing?
