Hi,
I am builiding a wiki for a relatively non-computer savvy crowd. I'd like to
make life easier for them by avoiding as much as possible writing actual
wikitext, as well as do some post-edit checks that the data has been entered
correctly.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to do one or more of the following:
1) Display an HTML form (particulalry check and drop boxes), instead of the
empty edit page (which I will then translate in the back to the appropraite
wiki text).
2) Place preformatted wikitext in a new edit box.
Thanks,
Shai
I have written some extensions which output headers at the top of some text.
For example:
<h2>My title</h2>
My text goes here.
The titles never show up in the table of contents.
I have tried outputting "==My title==" which just shows the equals signs.
I have tried $wgOut->parse("==My title==") which looks nice but still does
not show up in the TOC.
I have tried "<h2>My title</h2>" which again looks nice but does not show up
in the TOC.
Is there a way to make the output of an extension show up in the TOC?
Thank you for any help.
Paul
I just got SSH access enabled for my domain, but I've never used it outside
of a work context (which is basically the finduser function).
I'm fairly sure that when I first connect, it logs me into the default
folder public_html, but it never confirms for me where I am in the
hierarchy. I'm not sure which commands to use to navigate to my MediaWiki
installation (the directory is its own subdomain, wikific), and when I get
there, whether I need to type "php maintenance/update.php" or not include
the "maintenance/" line at all.
I tried looking at existing MediaWiki documentation, but it seems a little
too "short and simple" and lacks any real explanations.
I'm always getting the "Could not open input file: filenamehere.php" error
Besides update.php and rebuildlinks.php, what are other maintenance scripts
I should run after upgrading?
Thanks!

Hallo,
lesen.
Gruß
Sven
Thanks for the advice. Here is what I did:
1. Backup MonoBook.php
2. vi MonoBook.php
3. added this to top of program:
global $wgUser;
if( $wgUser->isLoggedIn() ) {
4. Hit F5 in my web browser after the changes.
However, the action tabs still appear even if the user
is not logged in. Where in MonoBook.php should I add
the line. Am I missing something in the steps above?

Clone Monobook, then edit the resulting clone and add
a simple check
global $wgUser;
if( $wgUser->isLoggedIn() ) {
above the statements which print out the content
action tabs.

I would like to secure certain areas within my wiki.
Is there a way I can password protect certain links?
One global password would be fine. Thanks.

Hello all,
I'm a new user to mediawiki and I'm trying to find a way to prevent the
Article title (text title) being visible within the article.
For instance Main_Page the Article title would be "Main Page" I would like
to hide this / and or replace it with somethjing of my own choosing, for
instnce an image / logo.
Is there an easy / quick way to do this?? I don't mind delving into the php.
So far I've looked in /include/Article.php /include/Title.php but don't
really know where to start.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

(this is a resend - i am hoping the person who can help answer my
question, missed it the first time. it is now several days later and
i still don't know what is going on.)
Hi,
I am new to web applications etc. somewhat experienced with general
sysadmin. and I hope this is the right list to ask this question. I
did look through the archive but did not see a similar question -
apologies if i missed it.
On a relatively old Liunx box (2.4.19)
with
Apache Server version: Apache/2.2. (which seems to be running fine)
Mysql Server version 5.0.22-standard (which seems to be running
fine)
PHP 5.1.4
I am trying to build my first MediaWiki Installation. and fill out
the form presented by ../wiki/config/index/php
but can't seem to do it successfully:

i know as little about Mysql as i do about Wikis. can anyone give me
a clue of where to look for my problem/fix?
thanks
a.
Um, following Brion's advice I upgraded to 1.6.7.
This reveals another problem. My URLs used to come out strangely, and
I was told by my web hosts to use $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] rather than
$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] for $wgServerName. But, to get that right, I
had to edit DefaultSettings.php.
Now, I know it says "Do not edit" at the top, and also
DefaultSettings.php is overwritten on upgrades, so this is not ideal.
After yet another upgrade to 1.6.7, I thought I'd put the line about
wgServerName into LocalSettings.php, but it doesn't work. Even if I
add the
$wgServerName = $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'];
line right after the line "require includes/DefaultSettings.php", it
still gives the "wrong" URL of the site.
I know I'm not supposed to edit DefaultSettings.php, so what should I do?
Thanks for any advice etc.
I want to create/use a skin for users that aren't
logged in that get rid of all of the tabs. Any advice?
