Is there any standard method for dynamically changing the license
declaration in the footer (GNU Free, etc.) depending upon the namespace of
the displayed wiki page?
Thanks!
Is it possible to categorize templates without the pages using the templates being categorized too?
I am looking for a possible quick tweak - I won't delve too deep into the code. Is there any?
I am using MW 1.4
Best wishes,
Morten :-)

MediaWiki,
Before beginning, please be aware that I am very new to MediaWiki, and
although a little experienced with PHP and MySQL, please respond on a
newbie level.
My intention is to have a Wiki installed on my home development
environment, and then mirror it onto my hosting service. So far, I have
succeeded in installing MediaWiki at home, which is an Ubuntu Linux
system. It runs fine at home.
However, when I copied the files and database to the web site, I got a
404 "Not Found" error when I tried to go to the index.php page.
To make a long story short, it seems the trouble is, at least in part,
this variable in the LocalSettings.php file:
$wgScriptPath = "/web_sites/gutteridge.info/web";
The Wiki in my home environment is located at:
http://localhost/web_sites/gutteridge.info/web
However, this is not the case on the server. On the server, the path
directory is something like:
/home/webadmin/gutteridge.info/html
I have tried therefor to seeing the variable to:
$wgScriptPath = "/home/webadmin/gutteridge.info/html';
With no success.
In any case, even if that were to work, I would prefer not to have the
files on my development environment and my hosting environment diverge
in any way, to avoid confusion and human error.
So, I tried:
$wgScriptPath = "$_SERVER[DOCUMENT_ROOT]";
But at this point I realized I was shooting in the dark. And also that
this one particular variable may only be part of the story.
How do I configure the paths so as to be able to mirror my Wiki? Surely
there must be a way to set the paths relative so as not to have the
problems I am encountering.
Please note I have already set up the database server to have similar
user accounts and passwords, so MySQL access should not be an issue
between the two environments.
Thank you for any advice.

Hi all,
I am working on an extension that more or less fully exposes the Yahoo!
Maps AJAX API and have been exploring different implementation techniques
and could use a little insider insight.
Is it possible to use the php DOM functions to walk the structure of a
MediaWiki article? If yes, can I get a brief snippet to start me off?
What I really want to do is from within an extension, to add a new <script>
child to the <head> element of a article. I know about getElementsByTagName
and appendChild but I haven't been able to get them to work with MediaWiki.
Thanks in advance!!Michael
The pkg_add worked with minor discrepancies (some of the software
versions installed were slightly newer than the ones required by the
packages), but I'll assume for the time being that won't cause problems;
if it does, I'll just do a full "make".
But what do I do next? Presumably I have to get php/config/etc files
into my web server directory, somewhat as described in the 'generic'
install page at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Installation, but do
I do this by hand (and if so, from where), or is there a better way for
FreeBSD? The instructions at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Running_MediaWiki_on_FreeBSD talk
about points involved in installing various extensions, but unless I'm
missing something, doesn't mention anything about what is necessary to
do between 'pkg_add' and restarting Apache. Since nothing obviously
related to MW has appeared in my web server directory after the MW
install, I'd assume I have to do _something_.
Thanks,
Ken
A Project Gutenberg support group runs a wiki system where
proofreaders can fix OCR text from scans. This speeds up the
digitization process of public domain books since image files of the
book pages can be uploaded and published alongside the text itself.
An example of how it looks like can be found on PG's Nordic sister
project Project Runeberg:
http://runeberg.org/pictswed/0257.html
Could these features be included in MW? What's needed is:
* Batch uploading image files while OCR read text will be included in
the page body.
* A split screen where the image can be viewed in a column on the left
while the text may be edited on the right hand side.
* A check box where the page can be flagged as "proofread"
This feature could be really useful, especially in Wikisource.
