getParentCategoryTree()

I am trying to find the most efficient way to get a list of all the categories that make up the category tree for an article. So if an article belongs to Category x and Category x belongs to Category y and z , i want to get the list: x, y, z I assumed that getParentCategoryTree() would do just that ... But it is only returning a title's parent categories not the entire category tree. So in the above case it is only returning 'x' instead of x, y, z. I am using the following: $CategoryTree = $wgTitle->getParentCategoryTree(); foreach ($CategoryTree as $key => $value){ $nt = Title::newFromText($key); $category list .= $nt->getText(); } Am I misunderstanding the purpose of getParentCategoryTree() ? If so, is there another way of getting the list of categories i am looking for? Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Customising the toolbox

Hello all. I use MediaWiki on my website at www.world-traveller.org, and recently upgraded from 1.4.x to 1.6.5. On the new version, I can't find the relevant code which puts the 'upload file' link in the toolbox. I'd like to remove the link, if possible. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Guys, anybody who uses such functionality? which extension or utility do you use? i have tried installing html2pdf but it seems that the instructions written in this page is not updated for the latest release- http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/HTML2FPDF_and_Mediawiki can anyone give me tips on installing html2pdf for the latest mediawiki release? i have also looked at wikipdf but the web server installation that we have do not have python installed. thanks for any help! --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. Questiong about editing in mediawiki

Hi all, I am new to mediawiki. When editing a page in mediawiki, there are three buttons to handle the form: "Save page", "Show preview" and "Show changes". Only "show page" can save the changes, but when pressing this button, the page exits the edit mode returns to read mode. This is really inconvenient when editing a page with long content. I need save frequently to ensure that my works will not be lost by accidents. Everytime I press "save page", I have to link the "edit page" and find the place I will edit. So I wonder if there is any feature that provide "save and continue editing" functionality. When pressing a button, my changes are saved while the page doesn't exit from edit mode. Any suggestions? Sigh, bulk image addition--so near and yet so far...

With many thanks to responses to previous questions, I think I _almost_ at the point of being able to bulk upload images. Here's the situation: - My images are in a file "uploads" in the "main" wiki directory, i.e. the one containing the "maintenance" directory. They all have a .jpg suffix - I have added and configured an "AdminSettings.php" file in the main directory. I can now run the rebuildImages script, which I could not do before. I get two different types of results when I try to execute the rebuildImages script while in the maintenance directory: If I run "php rebuildImages.php", I get the result; wikidb 2006-05-17 18:43:07: Processing image... wikidb 2006-05-17 18:43:07: Finished image... 0 of 2 rows updated wikidb 2006-05-17 18:43:07: Processing oldimage... wikidb 2006-05-17 18:43:07: Finished oldimage... 0 of 0 rows updated I have two images already in the wiki, I assume that is what is being reflected in this output. I'm assuming this causes rebuildImages to look through the "images" dir, looking for files it doesn't know about, and then add them to the database. Does this mean I need to add my files to that directory before running the script? If so, where? The directory apparently has a very specific structure, and I don't want to put images in incorrect places. Or can I get "rebuildImages" to look at another directory (eg. /wikimain/uploads), move them into the appropriate place in "images", and register the with the database? Once again, so many thanks for helping with this. We have (at least) several hundred images that need to be put into the site, and don't really like the thought of doing it by hand :-).

If I figure out the full magical incantation, I'll post it :-), for the time being I'll leave off sacrificing and burning the black rooster. (Them thing's good eatin') Basically, one has to make the change in LocalSettings.php as noted, place all of the images to be included at the _top level_ of the 'images' subdir, and then run "php rebuildImages.php --missing". This appears to load all of the images in the top level of "images" into the database. The problem is that links to these images sometimes, but not always, work. This may partially depend on whether the link is added before or after the image is added to the database, but I haven't been able to establish any definite link. Basically, I've seen three different types of behavior: 1) Link works fine. 2) Link points to file of MIME type image/jpg (or whatever it is), but there is a message something like "no log entry", and the image does not appear on the page, just the link. 3) Link does not point to anything (i.e. points to empty page). Some of my image names contain "__" (double underscores), and all of them contain single underscores; I've tried getting rid of the underscores, but again, that does not seem to have an effect, and the documentation for MW indicates that the _ character has no special meaning (though it normally appears as " " in link names). So I guess I'm going to have to explore the other scripts Rob mentioned, and possibly other approaches. We want to have this site up by the 29th, so want to have it available for internal testing in the next five days or so, so time is getting tight. I confess, I hadn't expected the task to be quite so difficult. (I'm converting from MoinMoin, and while it doesn't have nearly the power of MW, there's one thing I'll say about a flat file database structure; it's _dead easy_ to write scripts to manipulate content in just about any way one could want :-) ) Cheers, Ken

Is there any reason to be concerned about having the db name and user shown the the public? Hmm, it seems to have wiped the recentchanges on the test server. wiki with locked DB

We run our wiki against a DB server that dumps every night, which locks the tables to writing. I've noticed that this blocks access to the wiki, as it can't create the session tickets for logins. Is there any way to make the wiki accessable during this time? It's ok if it requires making the entire thing readable, and obviously it can't be writable.
