1. Uninstall the package, packages for MediaWiki have a reputation for
being awkward to use, and the tarball is so much more flexible
2. Check that Apache and PHP are installed, the latter having MySQL
support, if not, cd /usr/ports/databases/php5-mysql && make install
3. Install /usr/ports/devel/php5-pcre, ../converters/php5-mbstring,
../www/php5-session and ../textproc/php5-xml.
4. Check Apache configuration and start it.
5. Install MediaWiki from the regular tarball distribution files,
following the INSTALL instructions there.
Self-installation, as opposed to using a port or package, means you
know exactly where the files are in your system, since you put them
there yourself. This makes future maintenance, etc. trivial and
removes a lot of the guesswork.
