Hi,
I am new to this list and have just started writing some code for adding a new
tab for references, that will be present for every article on the local wiki.
This will be placed in line to edit, discussion tabs and will itself be a page
whihc has a list of references for that article.
According to my undersatnding i need to make some changes to skin.php. I
wanted to know if this should be done by writing a separate page under
extensions or should chnages be made to skin.php?
I am a beginner in this so any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

1.4.
Is it possible to upload Applets in a directory e.g. /uploads/applets and integrate them into a site via [[Applet:Appletname]] ?
Thanks in advance

Hi!
I have just started to run MediaWiki for a week. A have some special
questions regarding it. I have checked the FAQ, but I did not find relevant
(or enough) information. If you can help, please answer to me.
My main questions about the navigation bars are:
* I have modified the LocalSettings.php to add new bullet points to
'Navigation'. E.g. I created 'vip' and 'vip-url'. Now I can see:
> <vip> in the Navigation bar and if I click on it the answer is:
--error: link target missing--. What can I do?
* How can I add another navigation bar (e.g. under the 'toolbox')
Thank you very much, indeed.
Csaba
(From Hungary)
PS. I use 1.4.8.
so far, the Special:Import function does not work.

Subject: [Mediawiki-l] Merging wiki's
Hello,
I am looking into the possibility of merging two wiki's with each
other I would like to know if it is possible to actually merge the
databases or that a Special:Export <> Special:Import would work. (What
happens with Import/Export when a page already exists?)
Is there even a way to export (and import) the *entire* wiki?
I know I could run all the wiki's side by side and create interwiki
links to create something similar, but that doesn't integrate the
search function.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I wrote a script
that created a directory structure, then hard-linked or copied (as
appropriate) the various WikiPedia files. Then you edit the copied
ones, and the hard-linked ones work as though they were a copy.

I downloaded the most recent dump of meta (9/3/05). I unzipped the file with
WinRAR. I then went to special:import in my mediawiki(1.5rc4) and tried to
import it. When i did, it gave me the error "import source type unknown".
Could somebody please help me with this. Will it only work if I have
mediawiki 1.6? Please help. Thank You, shardsofmetal
I'm running MediaWiki on our intranet at work. I recently upgraded
our server from Mac OS X 10.3 to 10.4. In the process the MySQL
default database location appears to have been moved, so MediaWiki
couldn't see its database. I've also subsequently reinstalled
MediaWiki (but to a more recent version than before the system
upgrade), giving it a new database.
My question is, having found the old database in a directory call
wiki (but with no .sql suffix), consisting of the files as pasted
below, how do I recover it for the latest version of MediaWiki I have
installed?:
I've tried simply moving the database to the new location and
attempting to open it with phpMyAdmin but it said "No tables found in
database," and:
> Warning: mysql_query(): Unable to save result set in /Library/
> WebServer/>Documents/phpMyAdmin/libraries/mysql_wrappers.lib.php on
> line 104 Error SQL-query : SHOW TABLE STATUS FROM `wiki-two` MySQL

We're using Mediawiki on IIS using gd instead of imagemagik. This works
fine. Can you not just use gd?
Cheers,
Al.

I have 2 questions:
1. When I downloaded the pages_current.xml.gz file dated 9/3/05, I had
problems importing the file to my localhost wiki. It gave the error message
"Import source unknown". Could somebody please help me with this. I wan't to
mirror the meta wiki on my local machine so that i have access to the user
guide and other files, since i don't have home internet access.
2. I was wondering to export all the pages of a wiki like all wikimedia
sites do.
Thank You, shardsofmetal
