You telling me, that Thinus Ferreira got it wrong, and the company didn't
post an employment notice for a cyber-snoop in an exercise which pre-empts
the debate in the House of Assembly?
Multichoice have a bad track record when it comes to telling the truth
about anything, the company has its genesis in a concession granted under
the regime of PW Botha.
If you want to limit the corporation's messaging to the public, I suggest
you stop employing your own journalists, and rather release statements to
media which you don't own.\
But of course, that would mean, you can't spin the story any which way you
please.

Hi there
Just a clarification.

The company released a statement, attacking the lawfulness of receiving
information via data-over-IP:
“MultiChoice will be appointing a Cyber Piracy Investigator who will
aggressively go after South Africans who illegally download and share
local
and international TV content.” The group has
already posted job notices
for
a cyber-snoop who would aggressively monitor
Internet users, without a
court order.
This wasn’t a statement by MultiChoice, but a line noted TV journalist
Thinus Ferreira wrote in an article published on Channel24.
His article followed the one I wrote for MyBroadband.
Yes Channel24 is a News24 property, which is owned by the same company
that owns MultiChoice, but it is still a news outlet, and Thinus is an
independent journalist and TV critic.
Thinus provides quotes from MultiChoice regarding its aggressive
anti-piracy strategy dating back to 2013.
However, the sum of MultiChoice’s comment on the job posting was this:
"MultiChoice supports the protection of copyright and we’re committed to
uphold the laws and regulations of the Copyright Act, which makes piracy a
criminal offence. We work in partnership with a number of different
agencies to investigate instances where content is pirated and made
available online.
Our aim is to ensure that our content providers continue to supply us
world class quality shows and movies so that our customers continue to get
the best entertainment experience possible.”
Kind regards
