Hello everyone,
The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking to change the name of the movement. A survey has been underway for some time now to get feedback on this proposed name change. A proposal that is proving to be controversial with the volunteer community. You can fill in the feedback survey at the link below. I encourage people to give their feedback through this survey on the proposed name change.
It could have some real impact on us as a chapter as depending on the name change and way in which it is done we, Wikimedia South Africa, might also have to change our name as well along with all other chapters and affiliates. Possibly to Wikipedia South Africa. However it seems as though it is most likely that we will be allowed to choose to keep or change our names when we like at any point in the future.
We have two weeks before a final decision is made.
