Ah, those wily Wikipedians embarrassing me in front of my billion year
old mom.
Indeed, one finds not a single <noscript> on the entire
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_of_Settlement page,
nor I bet on the entire http://en.wikipedia.org/ .
That despite it being part of "A minimal example of a
standards-conforming web page containing JavaScript",
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript#Example_-_use_in_web_pages
and Wikimedia blogging day in and day out about accessibility, etc.
No I'm not saying there should be a single disclaimer for the whole
site, to let them off the hook, but instead useful links or at least
mentions of each item one is missing out on.
1. While analyzing my Mediawiki page with Google Pagespeed, I see that it recommended me to use Keep-Alive tag.
Is there anyway, I could use it on my mediawiki site?
2. Also, Is it possible to cache the static resources for longer cache times.
Eg: /w/load.php?debug=false&lang=en&modules=mediawiki.legacy.commonPrint%2Cshared&only=styles&skin=monobook&* has 5 minutes expiry.
I don't change CSS much, so its better, I put the expiration to one month or more..
Cheers,
Castor
Dear all,
Following a migration to Mediawiki 1.17, I experience problem with cite
extension to manage footnote references (<ref>...</ref>
...<references/>) : the reference number does not appear in some pages.
After review of my code, it seems to be related to the coding of table
using html syntax instead of wiki one.
For a better understanding, see :
* http://ressources-qhse.org/index.php?title=Mod%C3%A8le:UE (html code,
indexing number does not appear)
* http://ressources-qhse.org/index.php?title=Mod%C3%A8le:UE2 (wiki code,
idexing number present)
Another problem is with #replace, that I did not succeed to get at work
using wiki coded table. Could any of you help on any of these issues?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards.

Hello,
In LocalSettings.php I modified
$wgSitename = "TheName"
to
$wgSitename = "TheNewName"
Everything is fine, except that I can access to the Discussion pages
previously associated with the "TheName" namespace.
How can I recover them ?
Thanks

Ok, since no1 answered and maybe helps others browsing the archives - those who still got problems updating from 1.15 or 1.16 to 1.17
I got it done, the Web Updater doesn't work and gets stuck while running populateLogSearch.php.
(always and repeatedly)
so you NEED to update via SSH (the shell).
the server timeout set to maximum didn't help to make the web-installer/update fo beyond the LogSearch Population process, the only thing that worked was to do that manually via SSH. so the Webupdater needs updates for sure or maybe it doesn't work on my server. but most likely it may not work on others properly.
for those who need some info: a 50-100MB sized wiki won't take more than just minutes, so it's about seconds, not hours, so if your installation needs more than some minutes per 100MB your installation will fail / no continue at all.
all the best. unsubbing after posting..
(since I got no help here anyway)
but hope to help someone who got the same issures..

Dear members,
I've just upgraded to MediaWiki 1.17 and also updated my skin file to use
ResourceLoader.
But the problem is with ResourceLoader, that my site is loading from 8 secs
to 2 mins… Before it took approximately 4-5 seconds.
What I did:
I created an extension with an array structure in it:
$wgResourceModules ['ext.MorroHun'] = array (…) and inside I specified all
of the necessary own scripts and all the CSS files (both own and skin-
related).
After edited LocalSettings to load this file, in the skin file, in the
initPage() function I added the module: $out->addModules('ext.MorroHun');
Everything is ok with the page appearance, but it's incredibly slow. Maybe
doesn't ResourceLoader cache the generated compressed CSS and JS files on
server side? Unfortunately the server doesn't have any caching facility
(APC, memcache etc.).
I googled a lot how RL caches the results on server side but I didn't find
anything.
Sincerely,
Ákos Szőts

http://www.genealogy.henny-savenije.pe.kr/mediawiki/skins/monobook/main.css…
has this style rule that's taking precedence over the rest here:
div#content {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 white;
border-color: #AAAAAA -moz-use-text-color #AAAAAA #AAAAAA;
border-style: solid none solid solid;
border-width: 1px medium 1px 1px;
color: black;
line-height: 1.5em;
}
I don't know too much about CSS, but if you added a specific rule to
MediaWiki:Monobook.css that said
div#content { color: #800000; }
you'd probably be fine.

Hello everybody,
I've got a problem, which is simple, but in spending 14hours in
solving(googling, trying, ...) I havent't found a way to get it work.
I want to write a QGIS PlugIn in eclise IDE - but i cant't do anything,
because:
No module named qgis.core
(tested on eclipse, IDLE, pyscripter)
My QGIS ist in C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS Copiapo,
Python: C:\Python27
So I tested all ways I found in the web, Martin Dobias's blog and so on,
updates everything, changed and added a lot of Paths and PYTHONPATHS
(14h...)
but maybe I'm just a little bit stupid and just didn't took the right path
- any suggestions, which Path it should be, please mail back. Please.I
n [eclipse -> preferences ->pydev] I've already added every Folder of
QGIS, PtQt, Python27 - didn't help.
Is it possible that I understand something wrong?
I've tried to download libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll and add it
seperatly. Nothing.
I may use another IDE than eclipse, I just like it, but if it's not
possible with it (what I don't believe) I can use anotherone.
My first System ist Win7 x64, my second is winXP x86, it does't work one
anyone.
Please help me to find a way (or Path) make it working, it's really
important for me.
If you need some other specifications I didn't list here, please let me
know.
I'm thankful for every answer I'll get, just if you have Ideas, how I
should name the Paths, please let me also know.
yours faithfully
Jens Schwarz
P.S.: If you're able to answer in german-languange it it easier for me to
understand

The Wikimedia Foundation just released its new Annual Plan.
Summary:
http://blog.wikimedia.org/2011/07/12/wikimedia-2011-12-annual-plan-released
Q&A:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/2011-2012_Annual_Plan_Questions_and_Ans…
A heads-up for MediaWiki administrators and users: we're developing a visual
(WYSIWYG) editor, to make it easier for novice users to edit. This is a big
project that will take many months. We aim for "first opt-in user-facing
production usage by December 2011, and first small wiki default deployment
by June 2012."
You can find more information at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Future and
discuss the development on the wikitech-l and wikitext-l lists.
