The behavior of the Vector skin search box on my MediaWiki 16.5 installation
differs from the one on mediawiki.org (see screenshot):
1) The full text search option is only shown after selecting one of the
search suggestions.
2) I don't get the nice bold letters at the beginning of the search
suggestions.
Questions:
a) Have I messed somehow with my installation to cause this behavior?
b) Or is mediawiki.org using some other/additional search mechanism?
Any hints welcome.
TIA
Frank

Anybody got a graph of how big the disk footprint of a basic MediaWiki
SVN installation has grown each year? It seems we're up to
$ ssh jidanni.org du -sh mediawiki/
142M mediawiki/
Well yes, in these days of big disk platters, one can still get by.
But I do believe you are putting on weight a little faster than the
general population.
(Plus, I bet there's nothing we basic SVN users could do to trim the fat.
And if there was, it would end up breaking later, just while we are at the disco.
Whereas those who actually use those unused parts would be better suited
to deal with not sending it out at the source in the first place.
(OK, I recall I mentioned something like that before, but "as you provide/encourage
no official way to search for it", I'm not responsible for repeating myself.))
I'm working on a wiki that has been sitting at version 1.3.9 for
"quite some time" without upgrades. I've not been able to upgrade beyond
1.6.12. The upgrade path is direct from that point. I download the
tarball for 1.6.12, unpack it, run the update.php script and all is
well. 0 problems.
The pages load fine, everything is editable, the CLI returns no errors
or warnings. What strikes me as odd is that if I try and do a "direct
upgrade" from 1.3.9 to anything beyond 1.6.12 all I get is a white
screen. Running php from the CLI results in the following messages:
PHP Notice: Undefined index: REQUEST_METHOD in
/var/apache2/2.2/htdocs/includes/Setup.php on line 223
PHP Notice: Undefined index: REQUEST_METHOD in
/var/apache2/2.2/htdocs/includes/WebRequest.php on line 439
With the exception of 1.15.1, in which case I only get the second message.
I'm not all that sure of what the problem is at this point, or even
where I should be looking for answers. I've tried enabling logging,
been googleing this for over a week at this point, and I'm not even sure
which direction to go next. A pointer in most any direction is utmostly
appreciated.
I have attempted the upgrades on the following operating systems and
various versions of PHP 5 as well:
Solaris 10, OpenIndiana, CentOS, Debian. They all result in the same
outcome, which indicates to me that apache and php are not likely the
problem, but I'm ruling them out either.
Hi List,
I've got a problem upgrading mediawiki 1.15.X zu 1.17
the installer works fine, also it makes a lot of changes in the database, but at when it comes to
"
Populating log_search table, printing progress markers. For large
databases, you may want to hit Ctrl-C and do this manually with
maintenance/populateLogSearch.php."
it seems to hang, the server tells nothing about it but it's only a 35MB size database - after 3h and later 8hrs I restarted & retried but the same thing.
what did I do wrong, how long does this take? more than a day?
it's PHP 5.2.12 / MySQL 5.1.43

Hallo Wikimenschen,
habe schon länger ein Wiki mit Version 1.15.X und habe gestern gewagt den Updater laufen zu lassen, er läuft auch durch, macht lieb das Update aber bei
Zitat:
Populating log_search table, printing progress markers. For large
databases, you may want to hit Ctrl-C and do this manually with
maintenance/populateLogSearch.php.
Was mache ich falsch?
es bittet um Hilfe
Mic
I'm looking for someone with expertise in improving the performance of a standard MediaWiki site (ICANNWiki.com). Can anyone help with advice or consulting service? Thanks - Ray
Is there a way to view what people are searching for within MediaWiki?
Thanks
David

Good morning everybody
now i work on mediawiki 1.16.0 and i downloaded news extensions for mediawiki
1.16.X
The problem is that: this extension doesn't function, it generates me many bugs.
Please what is the problem and how i do for change it?
Excuse me in advance for my bad english, i'm french.
Thanks in advance.
Dear all,
I have migrated my sites from 1.16 latest edition to 1.17 (http://www.ressources-qhse.org and http://www.qualitionnaire.eu) and experience a few difficulties :
* the reference numbers in main text do not appear anymore (using latest cite extension code)
* some headers in awc forum are missing meaningful text (in forum tag mainly - using latest update)
Does any of you have experienced (and solved) such problems?
Thanks in advance for your help and best regards

Hi All !
I am trying to make a single login for phpCollab and MediaWiki by using a
different Login Page. Once the person login there, they should be able to go
around in both.
I have installed Mediawiki 1.17.0 and phpCollab using Xampp.
Also I have read the article
http://wiki.case.edu/CaseWiki:External_Authentication which helped me to
make few changes but I am still not able to set the things correctly. Can
anyone please help me if they have done something similar. Tell me if there
is any other way of doing this by not using third login page but just
modifying Mediawiki.
Thanks in advance!
