I recently set up a multilanguage wiki farm using interwiki prefixes in the "interwiki" table: "en" refers to en.mywiki.com, "de" refers to de.mywiki.com, etc.
But I was wondering: could *namespaces* be used instead of interwiki prefixes? That is, if my wiki has an "en" namespace, a "de" namespace, etc., will MediaWiki's multilanguage code recognize and use them for interlanguage links? In our particular case, we want articles of all languages to be in the same set of database tables, and this would seem an efficient way to make it happen.
Any reason this wouldn't work? Or is it a bad idea?
Thanks,
DanB
Thanks for the help !
I had a little compatibility problem, because the /etc/my.cnf file didn't
exist on this mySql version. It was replaced by a /bin/my.ini file. But
now
this works fine.
Hello !
My problem is when I try to make a search with a wildcard, the search
engine
doesn't return me any page. For example, if I search "to*", the search
engine
won't return me any solution, and I know "tools" page exists.
I've experimented the same problem on MediaWiki 1.16 beta1 and on 1.15.3,
with
and without semantic mediawiki enabled. I'm using IE8 (yes it's a shame,
but the
users are not interested in changing their habits...) on WinXP, and my
server is
managed by XAMPP 1.7.2.
Could you explain me what could be the origin of tthe problem, so I could
correct it ?
Regards

Not sure why im having a hardtim finding this, but is there a list of all the default mediawiki namespace pages. Like mediawiki:search or mediawiki:toolbar
I want to customize the wording on parts of the search pages - It's just too wordy.
Thanks as always ,

Subject: Question: Redirect
To: mediawiki-l-owner(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Hello,
I am one of the editors of a privately hosted wiki page. I am quite fond of
the redirect syntax that allows me to easily improve the search-ability of
the contained wiki. However, a partner group has recently granted editorial
access to me and viewing access to the people in my group. What I would
like to do is start redirecting our pages to their pages but there does not
seem to be a way of doing this.
Is there a way to do this? Or would it be possible for you to develop a
method for doing this, as I am sure that I would not be the only one to find
this functionality appealing. Also it would be nice to be able to redirect
to any webpage.
Please email me back.
Regards,
Ethan Kibe

Hi all,
I am attempting to use the Semantic Notifications extension to
MediaWiki, but I can't seem to find the final piece to the puzzle. I
have SMW installed along with SMWHalo, SMWGardening, and of course
Semantic Notifications. All of the extensions installed just fine(I
did the recommended test for each upon install). Although all of the
extensions are installed Semantic Notifications aren't working
properly. When I attempt to add a semantic query to the "watch list",
so I can be notified of the result set of the query changes, nothing
happens. No matter what, the query is not being added to the "watch
list" and therefore no notifications come in. I also noticed that the
Semantic Notifications bot is not listed under the Semantic Gardening
special page. If anyone has had a similar issue, or could guide me in
the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
BTW I am running:
MediaWiki 1.15.4
SemanticMediaWiki 1.5.1
SMWHalo 1.5.0
Semantic Gardening 1.3.1
Semantic Notifications 1.1
Thank you.
Alex.

Freedom is subject to obligations. You have the "freedom" - read, "power" -
to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater. You '''don't''' have a right to do
so.
> I do not have the freedom to vandalise Wikipedia.
Sure you do. People do it all the time. But you don't have a '''right''' to
do so. And you don't have a '''right''' to fill this list with off-topic
issues. Create a new list, and let others exercise '''their''' freedom to
spend allocate their time on lists as they choose.
On Wikipedia, is there a way to change the color of the images used in the
{{cquote}} template without uploading a new image. I expect this could
reasonably start with SUBST:ing the template to get the code, but what
about the image or the image color?
