On commons, e.g.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Lacerta_%28genus%29 the
number of subcategories, pages, and files in subcategories is directly
displayed. On our default installation, only subcategories are
directly displayed, the other information appears only in the tooltip.
I cannot find an appropriate setting on mediawiki.org. Any hints or ideas?
thanks!
Gregor
Hi,
I am running into an issue with email authentication. When a new user
account is created, I get the following message :
Error sending mail: mailer error
at this point no confirmation email is sent. Any ideas what could be
causing this?
I am running:
MediaWiki 1.15.1
PHP 5.2.11 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.1.42
Thank you.

Hi,
I've honestly tried looking through the doc and I can't figure out which
page I should be looking at to help me answer this question:
There's a number of icons installed in MW - for example in
$IP/skins/common/images/ - and I'd like to use them, but I don't know how to
reference them in wikitext.
Does MW look in all these directories by default? Do I have to specify
exactly where the image lives?
Is there a specific manual page describing this stuff?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A MW noob,

Hey all
Maps and Semantic Maps 0.6.2 are now available for download [0].
This release contains improvements to parameter handling, case insensitivity
has been re-added, and using default parameters together with named ones
will work more intuitive. In Maps the handling of distances has also been
considerably improved: there is a new #distance parser function, additional
distance related parameters in #geodistance, and new settings that allow you
to customize the default distance behaviour. In Semantic Maps a rather
important bugfix has been made which solves a problem with editing articles
with forms that contain maps that arose in 0.6.1. (changes to Maps [1],
changes to SM [2]). People running 0.6 and 0.6.1 are advised to upgrade.
Especially people using Semantic Maps in conjunction with Semantic Forms
[3], as both 0.6 and 0.6.1 contain undesired behaviour in the forms.
You can also read this message on the documentation wiki [4].

I would like to add a prefix to the title of many pages, in order to
move them to a new namespace. the pages are all in the same category
so
in principle the replace text extension would be the tool. however,
since replace text extension does not support regular expressions (I
need to match the start of the title and replace it with the prefix)
...
any help/solutions are very much appreciated!

Hi,
I really like mediawiki, but there's one thing I cannot do easily, it seems,
so I'm looking for advice.
I need to be able to partition the collection of pages into areas that are
private and semi-private and public.
I know there are a variety of access control extensions, but they all seem
rather complex compared to how, say, foswiki, handles it.
I know about namespaces, and categories, and subpages, but they all seem
like so much more work than just setting up "webs" in foswiki.
I need to provide "private" areas where only individuals can get access; I
also need to separate content into a few large collections that won't
overlap by default.
No matter whether I consider namespaces, or categories, or subpages, there's
always a lot of extra work needed to ensure new pages are properly named or
categorized. The names of the pages themselves seem to get longer than I
want, because of specifying namespace or parent-page names; or I have to
ensure my user community always puts in the right categories, which is a
burden on them.
There are serious advantages to using mediawiki, but this partitioning thing
is a dealbreaker. And many of the extensions seem to require more
hand-holding than I really want to provide.
So, given this, does anyone have any advice for me?
Cheers.

We are experiencing a intermitted bug during data entry using Semantic
Forms using IE. The bug seems limited mainly to users who have logged in
for the first time. Further this issue appears to only affect users of
IE.
User creates account and log-in. User creates a new page using a form,
enters data for all fields, hits the "Save Page" button and all the data
is lost. If they re-enter the data, then saves, the data is retained.
No error messages are displayed.
Any assistance welcome.
Thank you Adam.

Man was I slick when I wrote all this for MonoBook skin in my LocalSettings.php, for my
http://jidanni.org/comp/wiki/article-category.html sites,
$wgNamespaceProtection[NS_CATEGORY]=$wgNamespaceProtection[NS_CATEGORY_TALK]=array('editinterface');
function JidanniBlueLinkCategoryPages($linker,$target,&$text,&$customAttribs,&$query,&$options){
switch($target->mNamespace){case NS_CATEGORY:case NS_CATEGORY_TALK:$options[0]='known';}return true;}
$wgHooks['LinkBegin'][]='JidanniBlueLinkCategoryPages';
function JidanniDontInviteEdit(&$article,&$outputDone){if($article->getID()===0){
switch($article->mTitle->getNamespace()){case NS_CATEGORY:case NS_CATEGORY_TALK:$outputDone=true;}}return true;}
$wgHooks['ArticleViewHeader'][]='JidanniDontInviteEdit';#Bug 17630
function JidanniLessRedContentActions($sktemplate,$content_actions){
if(array_key_exists('talk', $content_actions)&&'new'==$content_actions['talk']['class']&&
!$sktemplate->mTitle->quickUserCan('createtalk')){unset($content_actions['talk'],$content_actions['watch']);}
if(array_key_exists('nstab-category',$content_actions)&&'selected new'==$content_actions['nstab-category']['class']){
$content_actions['nstab-category']['class']='selected';}

But now the years have passed and Vector Skin is now the default, and I
need to also make it work for Vector too but of course the moral of the
story is ... grandpa isn't a suitable Ph.D. candidate as he used to be.
So could someone tell me what I need to do to make these work in Vector?
Yes I know some flat list as been replaced by an array... but my brain
has become like a flat list... In the meanwhile my site looks bad by
default. Yes I could change the default skin back to Monobook but sooner
or later I need to rewrite these.
