Hi,
I have several wikis running from one set of source using method 1 at
http://www.steverumberg.com/wiki/index.php?title=WikiHelp&w=myc
all works as expected except when I come to use uploaded images.
Although I have set up a different upload directory for each instance which
causes uploads to go correctly in /images/wiki1 ... /images/wiki2 etc
when I come to use the images the wiki refers to
only the /images directory as though it has lost the upload directory.
Have I missed something out?
Also is there a way to prevent new instances of mediawiki picking up the
login of an already loaded wiki? This happens anyway but it becomes
problematic when I want users to stay logged in to completely
separate wikis whilst still having the opportunity to browse the wiki group
on the same machine.
Thanks
Alex
Bonjour,

Okay!
Made the Mediawiki:editpage.js.
If I understand the js correctly there are three extra buttons made allready.
For instance:
addInsertButton('wikipedia/commons/1/11/Button_category.png','Category',,);
It's clear that the address is not correct.
I put a button in skins/common/images
and changed the address.....
but nothing happens.
I tried a complete url, a relative url ... but no success.
What am I doing wrong?
To my surprise was the unintended consequence of installing common.js the appearance of lay-ou buttons on top of the editing screen.
I had been looking for it desperately, but not found.
But it tasted for more!
The positioning is just far better than on the bottom of the page. Select text and click the button - no scrolling needed!
For instance an extra button for the making of anchored pagelinks would be very helpful: [[#|insert]insert].
But as you maybe could learn of my opening statement: not knowing why they appeared means also not knowing where to adapt and copy the existing buttons.
Who can help
Thank you, Alexis: is was just common.js.
Makes you wonder why it is not standard in MediaWiki.
One bug I want to report in the buttons:
One of the 'actions' is this one:
<charinsert>+</charinsert> ·
+ stands for the selected text. Double + should mean that the selected text is copied. But instead of doing this, it breaks of at the second +.
I see three possibilities:
1. another script is needed to do this properly (in http://www.mediawiki.org/w/ the second + doesn't work either, but it doesn't brake of - the]] do appear)
2. it's really a bug - the second + shouldn't be there
3. it's really a bug: some code/script is forgotten or doesn't work properly
4. I don't use it the way it is intended

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Plz excuse me. My point is that, upgrade to a
newer version is not the solution for each and every problem. I'm not
only a user, but a learner as well (in fact, most of the OSS users as
well). I want to know what causes MediaWiki to behave like this. If the
problem can be solved with a small change in a file, why should I take
the pain of upgrading with migrating all my customizations?
If u see my first post, what I wrote was
>> Any idea for the possible cause and solutions?
Before finding the solution, my concern is what causes the problem and
why this problem.
Regards,
Jack

What are you talking about? Upgrading when you have issues with software
IS an important thing. If you upgrade, and your issue disappears. Then
that means that your bug is a known issue which was already fixed and
then released to the public. That's how software go, we release new
versions to improve and fix issues with older versions of the software.
Suggesting an upgrade is also a viable option. This lets us know if your
issue is one which is already known and fixed, or if it is a issue which
still exists in later versions of the software and may need to be fixed.
Old versions never get fixes except for large security issues with them.
Versions are not individual pieces of software, they are individual
points in the lifetime of a software which is progressively improving
and fixing itself. You don't fix legacy versions because they are not
broken. They are not broken because releasing new versions of that same
software with fixes for those issues, is the method of fixing the
software. Because whatever version, that software is the same software
^_^ Though, probably time to end this philosophical rant.

Hi,
our hosting provider upgraded to mysql 5 (5.0.32-Debian_7etch4-log).
With this MediaWiki stopped working completely with an internal error
saying he could not find the table:
//---------------------------------------
MediaWiki internal error.
Original exception: exception 'DBQueryError' with message 'A database
error has occurred
Query: SELECT value, exptime FROM `wiki_objectcache` WHERE
keyname='usr_web36_5-wiki_:messages'
Function: MediaWikiBagOStuff::_doquery
Error: 1146 Table 'usr_web36_5.wiki_objectcache' doesn't exist
(localhost) '
in /var/www/web36/html/test/wiki/includes/Database.php:844
Stack trace:
[..]
//---------------------------------------
I can still see the tables with phpMyAdmin, but I also cannot access
them in any way (structure, content, repair, etc.). Strange enough,
only the MediaWiki tables are affected. Other tables in the same
database still work normal.
Any ideas how to repair those tables?
Thanks,
Matthias
Hmm.. That's not a proper solution. There should be some explanation why
this behavior occurs :(

As always, you should upgrade when a new release comes out.
Could you try updating the MediaWiki on both boxes?
That MAY solve your problem. If not we try something else.

When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the

Hi,
I was wondering what the current thinking around Mediawiki licensing
was. I note all the headers are assigned in the core project to enable
a license shift. Does wikimedia expect to upgrade the license to 3 in
the near future, or is 2 where its at. Obviously there are some big
GPL 3 philosophical divides emerging - GPL 3 being seen as a more
militant approach to opensource.
GPL3 could cause issues when used in commercial environment for us, so
I'd like to know what the devs think!
Kind regards,
Alex
