splitting db

Hello, My wiki (wikignole.be) has a limited db (max 45 MB). At the moment, the db is almost full (44mo). So i have to reduce it. I tried to compress the old revisions but i didn't earn a lot of storage. The best solution would be to split the db on two or three different databases. I found this page http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgDefaultExternalStore who seem to be a solution (the number of bases is not a problem). I tried to do it (i edited DefaultSettings.php ) but don't succeed to fin the good configuration (i tried login:pass@adress but it failed). Could someone help me? Regards, Nicolas

Semantic mailing list somewhat reluctant

Hi all, When I try to post to Semantic Mediawiki's mailing list my mails gets rejected with the following message in "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender": <semediawiki-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net <http://mail.rilnet.com/src/compose.php?send_to=semediawiki-devel%40lists.so…>>: host mail.sourceforge.net[66.35.250.206] said: 550-Postmaster verification failed while checking <rolf.lampa(a)rilnet.com <http://mail.rilnet.com/src/compose.php?send_to=rolf.lampa%40rilnet.com>> 550-(result of earlier verification reused). 550-Several RFCs state that you are required to have a postmaster 550-mailbox for each mail domain. This host does not accept mail 550-from domains whose servers reject the postmaster address. 550 Sender verify failed (in reply to RCPT TO command) What is "550-Several RFCs", and what does "postmaster 550-mailbox" mean? I tried to post the message placed at the end of this post. Perhaps someone here knows the answer or can give a hint how I can post it in the appropriate mailing list . lay-out buttons in edit pages

Thank you, Dr JFBurté, very much. Some notes for others who want the same AND a question on lay-out of the buttons. You can find the script for common.js at [[Mediawiki:Edittools.js]] You need three things as well: a line in LocalSettings (don't forget to make the extra directory) and 2 php extensions. You can find those at: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CharInsert My question. For the lay-out of the buttons I need the following css: class="my-buttons" and class="specialbasic" In which css file should they be placed? Protected titles howto?

How do you enable MediaWiki's "native protection of nonexistent pages" mentioned at: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Protected_titles#Method_1:_Protecting… I've searched meta and mediawiki.org but can't seem to find the instructions. I thought it might involve the page MediaWiki:Titleblacklist, but when I add entries, they don't seem to have an effect (1.13 alpha). Also http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Special_page#Protected seems to imply this system message is just an alternate method. Thanks! DanB

Look at Title Blacklist extension (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Title_Blacklist). lay-out buttons in edit pages

I saw that there are a lot of nice lay-out buttons on the bottom of the edit pages. For example in: http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Extension:Email_notification&act… How can I put them on my own page. Searching got no results.... Who can help? rein

links navigation bar not working in Ferefox

That wasn't the problem actually: I always keep a file which isn't changed. I think the working with Mediawiki:sidebar did the damage, in combination with the change of monobook.php. Why it could not be reserved I don't know (I changed monobook.php back off course). What struck me before is that the JavaScript suggestions on the monobook.js page didn't work either. But if you have trouble with the navigation links in Firefox you know what to do. Rein

Thank you, Alain, "#column-one" was indeed what I was looking for.Lowering the personal also (p-personal) gave a much nicer look.It meant that p-cactions had to be lowered, and the content need a top as well.This way I was able to align the logo with the tabs.

links navigation bar not working in Ferefox

I installed Wiki again, and now the problem is gone. But I still can't figure out what caused it, because the sidebar is exactly the same, and all scripts and extra lines in monobook.php (in connection with the sidebar) had been removed. It makes you uneasy to change anything again. And why problems in Firefox and not in Explorer? Rein

value displayed by {{NUMBEROFEDITS}} doesn't change after edits

Hi If I insert the variable {{NUMBEROFEDITS}} into a page, the correct number of edits is displayed. However, when I then make an edit somewhere in the wiki, and then return to the page with the {{NUMBEROFEDITS}} variable, the value displayed doesn't change. Does anyone know why this is, and what can be done to force the variable to display the current value? Thanks in advance Derrick
