Hello all!
One simple question that might have been asked already: what should I do
in order to install a new wiki on my server, 1.7.1, but order it to read
data from a previous version of an older wiki I had on a different
subdomain, but on the same server? (the old version was 1.6.1)
I believe it IS possible... am I right?
Thanks!
Peleg.
Hello.
My mediawiki database uses latin1. Now I want to update to 1.9 and the
script to convert the database ("upgrade1_5.php") to UTF-8 fails with
the error:
Warning: fopen(maintenance/archives/patch-interwiki-trans.sql): failed
to open stream: No such file or directory in
/var/www/mediawiki/includes/Database.php on line 1959 Could not open
"maintenance/archives/patch-interwiki-trans.sql".
The settings in AdminSettings.php should be correct. Can somebody help?
Thanks, Daniel
Hi,
Through the mlist archive, I learned that we can massive import files like
plain text, html or picture files.
I'm just wondering, is there any ready make scripts to import alien
documents like Ms Word, or pdf into mediawiki?
Since porting documents from other formats is a common task, seems the
question should be a FAQ and sorry if it IS.
thanks

That's what I did at http://www.EcoReality.org/wiki/Join
It uses a web-based email form (which has it's own dangers -- know
what you're doing, or use a good one) to send registration email to a
human being who then directly adds a user record to MySQL and sends
the new user a message, asking them to enter their assigned user name
and click "Mail me a new password". I also modified
"MediaWiki:passwordremindertext" to include a lot of help for first-
timers, including a link to go to their user page and some
suggestions for preferences.
This works well for low-volume. I'd want something easier if there
were as many as even one request a day.

Hello all,
In a previous thread ("dynamic CSS for wiki pages"), Rob had pointed me to the Multilang extension* and gave a rough description of how to use it.
However, after not getting it to work on MW 1.8.x, I just tried it again with MW 1.9.2 - and it's still not showing anything.
I've added the following to my sandbox:
== Multilang ==
<language code="en">
Some text in English.
</language>
<language code="fr">
Un peu de texte en Français.
</language>
<language code="de">
Ein wenig Text auf Deutsch.
</language>
<multilang/>
-- EOF --
However, all I get is a couple of blank lines between the heading and the end.
Has anyone (successfully) tried this extension before?
If so, what might I be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Frederik

hi,
I've some thousand of plain-text files and I would like to import all
of them to my mediawiki. I know I have to format this plain-text with
a xml syntax, but after that??? I just know a xml import method but
not the way to do all in once (like a batch).
Thanks in advance
I just download the current 1.9.2
After setup, I move the LoalSettings.php and play around without problem.
However, if I open the LocalSettings.php with NotePad and save it.
(not changing anything), The site just return blank.
I can delete the file and generate a new one. Then mediawiki works again.
Can anyone help me?

</some-tag>
?

I went through all the steps of
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Troubleshooting_math_errors to set up
mathematical formula rendering on my wiki:
= Compiled texvc
I've activated <math> support by
1. adding the following lines to LocalStettins.php
$wgUseTeX = true;
$wgUploadPath = "{$wgScriptPath}/images";
$wgMathPath = "{$wgUploadPath}/math";
$wgMathDirectory = "{$wgUploadDirectory}/math";
$wgTmpDirectory = "{$wgUploadDirectory}/tmp";
and made the appropriate directories writable to apache user, then
tested with the following simple examples:
<math>1</math>
<math>\sin(x) + \ln(y)</math>
<math>F(x) - \epsilon </math>
<math>E = mc^2</math>
and it works by generating html where I can select the result on the
page as character string.
However when I tried to use a bit more complex example
<math>\frac{x^n-1}{x-1}</math>
or
<math>\sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{x^n}{n!}</math>
It did not generate what I expected: created something that looks raw
result.
I've tried these formulae on Wikipedia as I've got these examples from
there and it works there on the way that it creates an image.
I can't figure out what can be missing part of my setup.
OS: Mandriva Linux 2007
Installed all the latex related packages (wonder if Mandriva's latex is
AMS-Latex or not and this can cause the problem but I don't know how to
check)
Any idea where to look for the problem and solution?
Thanks,
Laszlo
Hi,
I did it; cache problem will be solved later ;-)
However, due to some webhoster limitation, I did it (as always before) using
the web-based method (re-run installer).
Up to now, the installation end was announced with the page mentioning to
rename localsettigs.php etc. But not this time.
The installation process ended in that grey box with all the messages after
"There are already MediaWiki tables in this database. Checking if updates
are needed...". Last message displayed: "Deleting old default messages..."
Running the wiki, all seems to be fine. Special:Version confirms 1.9.2.
But, is the upgrade completed and was it really successful?
And, BTW, I still can't get rid of the old revisions using
deleteOldRevisions :-(
Thanks, zaydo
