Hi,
I'm considering to integrate the media wiki with our current database
system. So the first thing is, instead of having the users sign on into
the database system and wiki system separately, how can I sign on into the
wiki system once I obtain the user name and password from http session via
another system? Or, where is the best place for me to intercept the user
name and password and inject them to our database sign on?
This is my first post. Sorry if the question has been asked. Please direct
me to the correct location if so.
thanks

I have recently installed MediaWiki 1.5 on a Windows 2003 server in
our office, along with MySQL4 and PHP5.
Also, many of us have recently upgraded to IE7.
When logging in or out of MediaWiki, and on some other occasions, IE7
will display an error page saying:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
* You are not connected to the Internet.
* The website is encountering problems.
* There might be a typing error in the address.
However, if I refresh the page, or just go back to the main page, it
is apparent that the login was completed. Its almost like IE7 is
choking on the redirect.
Has anyone else experience this? I set up a dev version of this
installation before moving it to the current server. The only
difference was that the dev version used PHP 4, and there was know
problem.
Are there any known issues with PHP5 and IE7?

How can I define a CSS file in addition to those on the skin?
I'd like to make all pages include an additional CSS file, without
having to modify the CSS files on the skins.
I'm viewing a MediaWiki page that I feel needs another section called
"x". For example, a page summarizing bird activity on each continent
with no section for Antarctica. I'm too lazy to add the section
myself.
Is there a standard MediaWiki tag/category that says "Someone should
really add a section called 'Antarctica' to this page", where
Antarctica is a parameter? A "missing section" tag?
The page isn't a stub, and doesn't require cleanup, so neither of
those tags would be appropriate.
Could I create the section myself, leave it empty, and then add a
"this page has empty section(s)" tag? I assume MediaWiki doesn't
automatically have a "Special:" page listing pages w/ empty sections?
I guess I'm looking for a "section" equivalent of
"Special:Wantedpages". I'm not asking someone to create a new page for
Antarctica (that wouldn't make sense, since it would break the
organization of the existing page), but I am asking someone to create
a new section for it on an existing page.

In the MW version I'm using, you have to be logged in to use it --
Catch-22. Perhaps that's been changed in later versions?

I'm setting up a wiki, and there are several extensions from either
meta or mediawiki.org that would be quite useful. My concern is
that if I install an extension and it breaks in some future
mediawiki upgrade, I'm going to be stuck either re-writing 100s of
wiki pages, or debugging the extension.
In general, is there any policy for the mediawiki developers as far
as testing that extensions continue to work? If not, can I have
any reasonable confidence level? Experience, anyone?

Hi,
I"ve finally decided to take the bold step of upgrading ( I'm not too comfortable with change :-) ) from 1.6.5 to 1.9.2 . Now for all you folks who've made the transition a couple of questions.
Can I just unzip the new files into the same folder of my 1.6.5 keeping the same extenstions , skins and images folders? And modifying the new localsettings file to incorporate the same modifications to the previous one??
Thanks in advance,
AJ
Some search terms aren't returning pages (in page text matches) despite
the terms definitely being in the text. I have tried rebuildall.php -
anyone have any other ideas?
Hi All
First off, if this is the wrong list, please point me in the right
direction.
I am a bit of a newby when it comes to wikimedia, so the question may
seem trivial.
I am having trouble allowing users to upload MS .ppt files. The error
received is:
Upload file
>From ECPDpedia
Jump to: navigation
<http://ecpdwiki.jf.intel.com/ecpdpedia/index.php/Special:Upload#column-
one#column-one> , search
<http://ecpdwiki.jf.intel.com/ecpdpedia/index.php/Special:Upload#searchI
nput#searchInput>
Upload warning
The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file
and upload again.
This seems to apply only to ppt and xls files. MS Word documents work
ok.
The relevant line in LocalSettings.php $wgFileExtensions =
array('png','gif','jpg','jpeg','ogg','doc','xls','ppt','mp3','sxc','pdf'
); which is a copy from te mediawiki documentation
And obviously $wgEnableUploads = true;
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gord
