A while back I read Thomas Gries' paper
Getlets: extending the interwiki concept beyond any limits
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Transwiki:Wikimania05/Workshop-TG3
and was quite intrigued by the idea. Since then, I have used the
TWiki facility for arbitrary URL inclusion to (for example) use a
PHP script to generate content for TWiki pages.
However, the Getlets page on SourceForge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/getlets/
doesn't contain any content, so I'm not sure how to proceed in using
this sort of technique in MW. Is there a facility for arbitrary URL
inclusion in MW? Pointers and suggestions welcome...

You could use the extension mechanism to invoke your PHP scripts.

Hello, may I interrupt with one last inquiry. I'm seeing that is list
is geared for the more advanced wiki user -- clearly the wrong place for
the newbe -- so I'll unsubscribe soon after receiving responses to this
missive. With that noted, could someone in the community/forum please
point me to a good written guide on learning to use mediawiki from a
beginner's stand point? Thanks in advance! -- RF
PS, I'm a highly-motivated self-learner, so I won't be wasting your
time, and I have good experience teaching myself to use complicated
software.
PSS, encouraging newbees from outside the circumscribed field of current
MediaWiki users (and Mediawiki-l members) might be beneficial, in the
sense that you would bring new problem-solvers into the fold, perhaps
spawning some creative solutions not otherwise fielded. I hypothesize
that within a short time-frame, the quality of the additional voices
would exceed the (initial) noise we would bring to the forum.

I am using version: mediawiki-1.8.2, everything is okay...
but unit test not working, as pear/phpunit no longer exist.
i have downloaded latest phpunit from : http://www.phpunit.de/, but
seems their writing style has changed (in fact, why they moved out
from pear?)
for example, there is no phpunit.php, but framework.php

We're running a Mac mini with Mac OS X Tiger (home, not "server")
as (among other things) our web server. It runs PHP 4.4.4 and
we have upgraded to MediaWiki 1.6.8. We migrated from FreeBSD 4.7,
where MediaWiki ran fine.
Unfortunately, we're having problems in migrating MediaWiki. If we
load in a fresh copy of MW, we get no errors. However, if we shut
things down, copy over the MySQL database directories from the old
box, and restart things, we get:
Error in fetchObject(): Got error 1 from storage engine
Backtrace:
* GlobalFunctions.php line 451 calls wfbacktrace()
* Database.php line 520 calls wfdebugdiebacktrace()
...
* GlobalFunctions.php line 322 calls wfmsggetkey()
* GlobalFunctions.php line 288 calls wfmsgreal()
* index.php line 77 calls wfmsgforcontent()
Suggestions?

Is there any way to have a small floating navigational link on the bottom right corner of each page on the wiki that takes us to the top of the page? The anchor exists already. All we need is a link to the anchor "#top".
Another thing: the existing "top" anchor link on each page doesnt take you to the absolute top. It goes near the top, but not TO the top.

Hello!
I'm still looking for a solution, to make MW running on MySQL 5 and php5.2. The
issue with every MediaWiki-version (only 1.7.1 works!) is still present: blank,
white, empty page.
In description from another php-Software I read:
All so-called "blank pages" in Xoops are caused by an error which terminates
the script early. The goal of this page is to help you turn some debugging
features on so you can get a more meaningful picture of what is going wrong,
preferably some error messages.
Is there any possibility, to turn on Debug-mode in MediaWiki, to get some
error-messages?
Regards,
Jan
What do I have to do to the code to make it work on my wiki? Is this even
possible, or is it a purely WMF-only thing? Not really sure where to
start...any help appreciated!

Hello everyone,
While trying to introduce a wiki system for our project team, I've realized that having a WYSIWYG - or WYSIWYM - extension would be a great help in getting people to actively contribute (even though I personally prefer the "raw code" approach).
After doing some research (including the semi-philosophical pros & cons of WYSIWYG in general), it seems to me that FCKeditor is currently the only viable option for this.
However, due to the fact that FCKeditor creates raw HTML instead of wiki syntax, I'm afraid that its implementation might lead to complications down the line.
Could anyone give me a brief heads-up of the current "state of the art"; are there any MW-"native" WYSIWYG editors in the works? Can we expect to see WYSIWYG-functionality in MW anytime soon - or is it very low on the priority list?
Even though I'd prefer to stick to MW, I feel compelled to look into the possiblities of MoinMoin due to its native WYSIWYG support. (N.B.: I don't intend to start a MediaWiki vs. MoinMoin flamewar here!)
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Frederik
