Commercial MedaiWiki hosting?

Anyone happy with your commercial MediaWiki Web host? Recommendations? Dreamhost.com virtual hosting, $7.95/month, where I host my MediaWiki has frequent sluggish spells. I suspect the MySQL server is bogged down by too many other virtual host customers (my wiki only gets a few hits a minute, itself) and the overextended MySQL server is causing the wiki to serve pages in 2-8 second instead of the 1-2 seconds that is acceptable to normal website visitors. Normal people such as I'd like Wikigogy to serve just wont wait more than 2 seconds to view a page. So I need to find a faster MedaiWiki hosting solution. The slow down is on again off again -- site is fine for a day or more and then everything slows down again. It just wont do for my project. I'd love to hear from anyone who is using a commercial full MedaiWiki Web host, on a virtual Web hosting account or otherwise, and is happy with it. 1.4.14-1ubuntu Upgrade path???

We installed the mediawiki package found in the ubuntu depositories version 1.4.14-1ubuntu. We need many of the permissions functions available in 1.5 or above of mediawiki. Is there a later version of the ubuntu package? If not can/should we upgrade to the standard mediawiki 1.5 release? Access restrictions

Hope this isn't off-topic here. I prefer playing with things to reading documentation, but I can't play with mediawiki just now for reasons given in another thread, so I've been looking at the docs and it seems it might be difficult to get it to do what I want. That is: have a site a bit like a blog, in that anonymous users can read anything, people can comment on articles (ie add to talk pages) -- though maybe requiring registration/login -- but nobody can edit articles except the owner. I found the Preventing Access page on Meta but that doesn't seem to cover my case. I'm willing to copy hacks that others have developed and tested but not to do experimental hacking myself. Do I need to look elsewhere for this functionality? (My site is actually setup as a blog just now, see the link in the sig, but I'm not entirely happy with that because most of the content will be static, with most posts being just announcements of changes to the static content. Two questions: Javascript & Top left image

Hi, I'm using Using MediaWiki ver 1.8.2 and had two questions: 1) How can we allow our users to add javascript to a page? I tried adding $wgAllowUserJS = true to my localsettings.php file but nothing seemed to happed when I dropped javascript onto a page. 2) Has anyone been able to change the upper left image/make it swap to another image depending on what page(s) a user was on. I noticed on WikiIndex.org it changes when you are on the Sandbox page vs. when you are on the other pages of the wiki. Would be cool to be able to set up for "sections"/division of content. where replace MW "_" with " " ? Usernameproblem

Hi, we are using a MW with an OP3 authentication.It works without problem with names like hexxer or testuser, but witk names like "test_user" it dont work. Failuremessage show us that MW replace the _ with an space. t means it will authenticate not "test_user" MW change it to "test user". Anybody now in which file we have to change it? regards and thanks

I think you're trying to look for "Wanted pages". Broken internal links are to some extent desired as it is marker to show possible, relevant additions to your wiki. Mobile device testing

I stuck a few notes up the other day on the subject of testing with emulators: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Mobile_browser_testing To summarize real quick: * Opera Mini can be tested in any desktop web browser via a Java applet that Opera provides * IE Mobile / Pocket IE can in theory be tested in an emulator that Microsoft provides (for Windows PCs), but I haven't gotten networking to work so haven't been able to reach a wiki with it If someone can get the Windows Mobile/PocketPC/Windows CE/whatever thing working, or knows of good resources for testing other mobile OSs/browsers, that would be welcome news!
